What should I Phase I?

I'm deciding between Korean 10AX, EA Lang 105, and Math 16B.

I find it strange that for Korean 10AX, there are 22 seats open and only 3 people are waitlisted for it. Nobody's enrolled, only waitlisted. I thought language classes were supposed to fill up in a hurry?

I am going to Phase I Econ 100B tomorrow, and I need help choosing the second class.

Thanks.

I think for language classes, it doesn’t matter what your number is on the waitlists, because you have to attend the classes and then the teachers decide who gets to stay, because it’s so competative to get in. [At least this is the case for Chinese/Japanese]

Thus, there is no incentive for people to Phase I it.

I think EA because it seems to have a large waitlist already.
And when the restrictions are lifted, I would think you want to be early so you’ll be one of the people enrolled. :D

I see. I guess I will sign up for EA then. Thanks.

Another question:
Because my Phase I is so late, I only have a 4-5 PM discussion for Econ 100B to choose from, or 8-9 AM in the morning. I really want a discussion sometime after noon, but those are filled up. Should I take the risk of being #5 on a waitlist for one of those discussions, which have a class size of 30 and a lecture size of 360?

Focus on getting into the class first, you can try to switch sections later.

I feel like now’s the best time to get into a discussion I want. If I switch later, I will just end up with a larger waitlist #.

It’s more important that you get into the class than just trying to get a good discussion time -)

That’s very true. Thanks.

yea gluck on telebears

Alright, something’s strange with Telebears.

I tried to sign up for the 4-5 PM discussion for Econ 100B, but this is what shows up:
http://i7.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/albums/y283/marchNOW/waitlistecon.jpg

Basically, every discussion is full.
Then, I waitlist for the 2-3 PM discussion at #5 because that’s my first choice, and I look for open sections and get this:
http://i7.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/albums/y283/marchNOW/waitlistecon2.jpg

I am currently #34 on the auto-adjusted waitlist on the main class list on Telebears.
Even when I try to switch into the 4-5 PM discussion that is supposedly an open section according to the second link above (section 116), I am #34 on the waitlist.

Does anybody know why this is? What should I do?

Probably the restrictions:

The discussion has only: Restricted to Students with a class level of Sophomore or Junior or Senior

However, the main class has four groups:

Instructor Approval; a Class Entry Code is required to enroll in these seats. (Open)
Students with a registration status of new or readmitted (Open)
Students in the College of Letters and Science (Full)
Open seating (Full)

Since you not a new admit, it is full unless you get a CEC from the instructor. Since you can’t get into the main class, it is probably waitlisting you for the discussion even though slots exist.

You can either select another class or waste the phase I units on this and hope that you can talk the instructor into letting you in. That might not happen until Fall. If I were you and if this isn’t critical to your intended sequence of classes for your major, I would go to Plan B

Prior to doing your registration through telebears, going to schedule.berkeley.edu and then clicking on the link to ‘enrollment information and current restrictions’ will give you the current snapshot of your target classes. Saves frustration while logged into telebears, particularly during your limited phase I time.
