As a college freshman, I have never worked before or volunteered. What should I write in my resume to get an intership this summer?
And, is there anything that I sholud do during spring semester that'll look good on my resume (as a business major)? What are some things I can do?

Honestly, I would get a job and volunteer over the summer. Your chances are slim enough as a current freshman, not to mention the fact that you have zero work experience. In fact, it may be pretty difficult to find an ordinary summer job, too, given the unemployment rate.

Have you thought about joining a club related to your major? Or a business fraternity? You could also look into job shadow opportunities, and finding a mentor in an area you are interested in (many schools have a database of alumni willing to take on this role).

I would use this summer as a time to collect experiences that you could put on your resume for next summer. Getting an internship for the summer after sophomore or junior year is much more realistic.

Thanks, sounds helpful.

Look for an on-campus job for the spring. If your grades are really good, you could try the tutoring center. If you are a good swimmer, perhaps lifeguard (there’s always a shortage of these at my son’s school). Your school might have help-desk jobs or just being a receptionist for a department. Some of these jobs are great because you can study when it’s not busy.

On your resume, you can add honors and awards but having real experience - in anything - is the best.
