What should I take for next semester: Geology or Astronomy???

Many people say Astronomy is a really tough subject......but Geology sounds boring too.

Which one is more easier?? What r you experience (if you taken it)?

I took intro geology…bit of memorization involved but I would say the hardest part about the class is staying awake during lectures.

Astronomy, from what I’ve heard involves A LOT of physics and the test can get hard–but like all classes it depends on the teacher.

Geology, hmmm yeah it does sound boring. I took geography and we covered a lot of geology and from I took in that class it was a drag really. But then again it wasn’t to bad, I got an A with not much application or studying.

StormingWynn- So, geology is somewhat similar to geography? I’m taking geography now too…the lecture is so boring tho.

take astronomy!

Astronomy tends to have math and physics elements. Geography and geology are very similar. Take whatever you want. I’d rather have boring over math and physics (and possibly STILL boring.)

Remember the good ol’ Lithosphere section of Geography? Well, take that and expand it into an entire semester, but a little more detail and VOILA you have geology. For me it was a pain. All the layers of rock and types of… and all that crap. Gahh, I wonder how I got an A? Hmmp, who knows.

Depends on what school… I’m taking Astro & it’s really cool but amazingly easy bc there is no math/physics… but with math/physics it could be annoying unless you’re a math/sciency person

lol, im totally not a math or science person. I hate both subjects! Lol…but then again I’m a social science person either…lol…I perfer that over science or math tho.

StormingWynn-Lol, I dont remember anything from geography. I’m soo lost in that cls. I took it freshmen yr in high school too. It’s just not my thing…I dont like any academic subjects except english, haha.

That’s funny. I think a lot of people here would understand why, yes I’m being stereotypical, sorry. But anyways, don’t worry, the class it mainly rot memorization and regurgitation. If you can do that, then geo will be a breeze.

I added a Geology class but dropped it and took Astronomy in the end. My friend, who’s in the Geo class, says it’s an easy A. Here I am struggling through my Astronomy class with a C. =[ It’s too full of physics.

Back to Astronomy homework…

I personally find astronomy more interesting :p

Astronomy, ftw!

If it’s an average intro geo vs an average intro astro class, I would hands-down choose astro. On the other hand, our geology department occasionally offers classes for non-majors that are quite interesting.

For example, I took a geo class called Natural Hazards last semester. We discussed the earth processes that cause earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, etc, and things we can do to mitigate their effects. Apparently the course covered 2/3 of the material from our intro to geo course (earth processes), but they replaced some of the sedimentology and chemistry sections with hazard statistics and hazard mitigation.
