I took two SAT tests (March and May) as well as two SAT subject tests in June (Physics and Math I). I didn't do well at all on the SATs (1680 and 1720), and I think I will get around 660/670 for both subject tests.

Obviously, the scores do not look too well because of the fact that I plan to apply to good-great academic colleges.

With that being said, what should I do this fall: retake SATs or take ACTs (and have a fresh new start)?

I am asking this because I had/have high expectations on these tests (2100+ on SAT) and because I have a good GPA. I am confused and do not know what to do to try and help my college application become the best it can be.

Regardless, I am going to study heavily on either, but do not know which path to take before getting started.

My advice would be to study lightly for the ACT, take one or two genuine ACT exams under realistic test conditions, and then decide whether to devote your efforts to preparing further for the ACT or SAT.

Assuming that you’re going to be a senior next year, you probably don’t have much time to retake all of your SATs. Considering the fact that you only had a one hundred point improvement and it was still in the 1700s, I’d say that you might want to consider taking the ACT. I personally think that studying heavily on BOTH is not a good idea, especially since you can be using your time to do other things, like extracurriculars or volunteering or having fun, etc.

So basically, it’s probably preferable to take the ACT in one sitting rather than take the SAT on one date and then taking the SAT subject tests on another date.

Like theorist said, try taking the ACT exam under realistic test conditions, and see if you do well on it.

Thanks guys!

By studying hard, I mean studying 3 days each week for 30-60 min, and taking a practice test every weekend.

Without a doubt I am going to try and volunteer and participate in other activities!
