What should I wear to my interview?

Hey guys! What should I wear to my interview for University of Rochester? Should I wear formal or unformal attire?

Casual but not sloppy.

Unless you’re interviewing for interviewing for one of the competitive programs, then I’d dress a bit more professionally.

so am i allowed to wear a shirt and jeans? and tennis shoes?

Nice jeans that are clean, don’t have any tears or rips and don’t show your “whale tail.” (See the urban dictionary if you don’t know what that means.)

Nice shirt that is clean and that does NOT have another school’s logo emblazoned on it.

Sneakers are OK–again if they’re clean and presentable.

Slightly different opinion from another mom - I don’t recommend jeans or sneakers. You certainly don’t want to go formal, but one step up from jeans and sneakers is my recommendation.

Dress to impress

Unformal but not jeans and t-shirt.

Top with polo shirt or something with collar. Pair with khaki or preppy shorts.

Enjoy your time at campus and the city, you will like it.

Honestly, from the perspective of an admissions counselor… wear what you are comfortable wearing. Certainly you would want to avoid any inappropriate clothing, but I am interested in getting to know you as an individual, and if your clothing/style is an expression of that, than I’d say wear what you want to wear. A t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers is perfectly acceptable. Also keep in mind that you will likely be touring campus, and it has been a hot summer, so dress to be comfortable in 90 degree whether for an hour long tour. I would avoid over-dressing - we as counselors are dressed down in khakis and polos for the summer.

*weather, not whether
