What should I write in the letter to the UC's about my "F" in Pre-Calculus?!

I received an "F" for the first semester of senior year. I know...very bad. I never failed a class until now. I don't know what to write. I need some help!! I need to write something very convincing so that UCR won't revoke my admission. I know that I need to explain why I got that F but don't I need good reasons? I don't really have any good reasons except that the class was just too hard for me and that I didn't understand most of the concepts. For those of you that needed to write about your failing classes, what did you guys write in the letter? Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Anyone can learn concepts by reading a book over the weekend. Just write in your letter that you didnt bother to try learning them and you didnt study.

Didn’t you fail biology or something too?

If I’m not mistaken, isn’t there auto-rescind policy for grades less than “C” at the UCs?

write a riveting essay on how you poorly managed your time and underestimated the time necessary for the class. MAINLY, I would say talk about how you’ve learned from this experience and convince them that it won’t happen again. They want to admit people that they think will succeed- convince them that you’ve learned.

I tried very hard and study for every test! I just didn’t understand the lessons that he was teaching and our grades were based on quizzes and tests and I failed all of them. That is why I failed the class, not because I didn’t try my best.

If you tried your hardest then you would have asked questions when you didn’t understand things and made sure you 100% knew the material before you were finished studying. Good luck fixing the problems you made.

i was going to make a thread asking the same thing except that i have an F in ap physcis and im in my junior year so ya it suckss soo hoepfull if a got a 5 which im trying my best to i need some help in convincing them about this F i took especially if my aim is to go to BU or UCLA ! soo ya im going through the same process and i need helpp… please ?
good luck

Are you still in the class? Has your grade improved this semester? If your grade has improved, providing a letter from the teacher stating that is has improved to go with your letter would help.

If you dropped the class, you should tell UCR how you are going to learn the concepts you were unable to grasp. Have you hired a tutor? Signed up for summer school at your local community college? Taken an online course? If you haven’t done those things, I suggest you do so you can show you are doing something about the “F.”

Failing pre-cal and saying that it was “too hard” is a one way ticket out of UCR. Saying any high school course is “too hard” just shows incompetency and foreshadows failure in college. I’ve failed two semesters because I was lazy and I didn’t really care. Now you have to decide whether or not the course was really “too hard” or if you where just being lazy. If you choose the former, you’ll need a lot more help than a measly excuse on a college essay.

I disagree with Borb because there are some who simply cannot grasp mathematical concepts but are still qualified to attend college.

write about how you want to be an english or history major

According to her previous posts, the OP aspires to go to dentistry school. Ain’t looking too bright for her! :(
