What Should My Safety Colleges Be? (In CA)

I'm a high school senior, with close to a 4.0 total GPA, and a 4.6 junior GPA. My ACT scores are: 32 composite, 32 English, 35 Math, 30 Reading, 31 Science, and 29 Combined English/Writing. My SAT scores are 2100 and 2050 (the lower score was from my second SAT, and I don't know how that'll effect admissions). I plan on taking the SAT Subject Tests for Math II and French With Listening on November 5. My senior classes: Calculus AB AP, Teaching Assistant, Composition and Literature AP, Yearbook, AP Government and AP Economics, and French 5 Language AP.

EC's:
-Editor-in-chief of my high school yearbook, editor-in-chief of my junior high yearbook, and two other years as a staff member
-Language tutor
-Head coach for a soccer program that coaches/organizes practices and games for children with disabilities
-Played soccer for 8 years
-Volunteer regularly at Community Meals
-Member of Healthy Lifestyle Club, NHS, CSF, and officer for my school's chapter of the Interact Club.

Schools I'm applying to:
Stretches: UC Davis, UC Berkeley, and maybe UCLA.
For sure not getting into, but have to try anyways: Stanford.
Also thinking about: UCSB, UCSD, UCSC, USC.
Applying because I can do it for free: Mills College, St. John's University (In NY).
Possibly for safety: St. Mary's College.
Really want to be accepted to: Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo

Majors: most likely Economics, also considering Political Science, Pre-Law, Business-related majors. Wouldn't mind minoring in: ethnic/area studies, French

Ideal careers: lawyer, attorney, businesswoman, something to do with economics or marketing... Suggestions?

Take a look at Chapman U., same USNWR ranking as Cal Poly SLO.

Are you interested at all in any of the Claremont schools? Pomona could be a good reach, and some of the others would be matches/safeties. Scripps is great if you’re interested at all in women’s colleges.

The less selective UCs would probably be safeties or close to safeties admission-wise with your stats. Most CSUs also.

But very important: put “net cost calculator” and/or “financial aid estimator” in each school’s web site search box and check to see if its net cost after non-loan financial aid is affordable to you.

Pre-law can be done in any major – there are no specific course requirements (just get a very high GPA and a 175+ on the LSAT to get into a top-14 law school). You may want to check the article about a glut of law school graduates, such that those from lower ranked law schools tend to have poor job prospects.

I think UCD, UCSB, UCSD, UCSC, and Cal Poly SLO are safeties…you’ll get into one of these!

Did you calculate your UC gpa? it is different from normal gpa. I’m not sure ‘teaching assistant’ or ‘yearbook’ will be eligible for the qualifying or gpa part of the UC calculations. Check with your advisor or UC Pathways website. Have yoyu have 4 years of sciences?

Have you considered Santa Clara?
