What sort of courses are taken during winter/summer sessions?

Since Summer/Winter session only last about a month and a half, what sort of courses are more fitting to take during S/W sessions? Is Philosophy, History a good choice or nah?

Over my summer/winter classes I took a language, 2 maths, a philo class, an anthro class, a psych class, and an art history class.

Most difficult were the math classes.
Medium were anthro psych
Easy were the philosophy and art history

in the course of what, 2 winters and a summer? 7 courses?! ^:)^

btw, how many units should a transfer student get to transfer? I know 60 is the minimum and 70 is the maximum, but is there a number of units that people normally get before transferring?

2 winters and 2 summers

Summer 2013: French
Winter 2014: Philos, Math
Summer 2014: Anthro, Stats
Winter 2015: Psych, Art His

Humanities

It depends on where you are during your educational plan and what you need, as well as goals.

This summer I’m currently taking English Comp 2, Intro to Cinema, Intro to Admin of Criminal Justice, and Business Law.

My goal is to transfer into UCB’s Haas. English Comp 2 is a requirement and I didn’t wan to have to deal with it next semester when I’ll be starting a new language and calculus. Intro to Cinema is a fluff class, Intro to Admin of Criminal Justice is to replace a C- I earned in the class 10 years ago, and Business Law is a requirement for Cal Poly, which is a backup school.

I’m also trying to get as many units as possible by the end of Fall 2015 to improve my GPA.

So, it really depends on where you are and what you’re looking to accomplish. Humanities in general though are going to pretty basic. I’d avoid math unless it is something you excel at. All my classes have been easy but English has been fairly fast paced … two weeks into the course and a 4 page paper has been due at the end of each week, and a 10 page paper is coming up.

It doesn’t really matter once you’re over 60. I’m at over 100 semester units and A’s I get will continue to help my GPA and classes I take will still fulfill requirements.

Summer sessions are an excellent opportunity to get your GE’s done. You can also use them to get ahead in your major classes, though doing so is quite difficult (especially if you’re a STEM major) since everything is squeezed into just a month and a half. I personally took 2 classes during the summer between my freshman and sophomore years at my CC. One was Differential Equations and the other was a Visual Arts class for IGETC. It was a very busy summer, though I still managed to pull off A’s in both classes. So it is still doable, but you definitely need to be doing work every single day in order not to fall behind.

Oh, and Rate My Professor is crucial for summer school. With classes being so condensed, making sure you don’t have the worst teacher on the face of the planet usually helps a bit.

I took English and History last winter session. Right now, I am taking Chemistry and Art. Basically, winter and summer are a great time to complete your GE’s, and it will allow you to take major prereqs during the full semester.
