I was accepted to FSU in January but did not receive the full OOS tuition waiver I needed to be able to go there, so I pursued other options which were more affordable. Yesterday I received an email stating I was reevaluated and chosen to receive the full OOS tuition waiver, however I had not yet filled out the housing application. What should I do?
is there any other way to move up on the list for housing?
Just keep working with the housing office if you want to live on campus, or find an off campus place on your own. There will be a lot of shifting around as there are always kids who change their mind, find friends to live with.
My daughter had a friend at FSU who lived in an apt and it was set up for each student to have his own rental contract. She had all 4 rooms to herself for almost a semester. Those places also rent to the community college and to FAMU students.
Check out Southgate, it’s essentially a privately run dorm. The location is only a block off campus, not far from the Landis and Gilchrist dorms. Since it is privately owned you don’t need a housing number to sign up there. You can also go into an apartment and not miss much. There are tons of apartment complexes with leases for next year.
Just curious, what changed that they bumped you up to the full OOS waiver? Did you have a 4.0 core gpa and a 30 ACT?
@mctajord If u don’t mind me asking…what were ur stats?
@Searching2020 @SAD1010 They emailed me and said they had received more funds to offer scholarships. I had a 31 ACT and 3.9 GPA but I know FSU recalculates GPA on their own standards, so I’m not sure what it was according to them. I’m sure there were also students who were offered the scholarship but chose to go to other schools.
@twoinanddone Fees for an apartment don’t get applied to my university bill though do they? It would be pretty tough for me to pay for an apartment. Unless I could use my student loans for it??
@mctajord , your student loan will be disbursed to you directly so you can use it for housing however you choose. If you go with an on campus dorm the school will bill you for the entire semester the first week of classes along with your tuition. Dorms are approximately $3300 a semester. Apartments will charge you by the month and range anywhere from $400-$900 a month. The newer and closer they are to campus the higher the price. I’m not sure how much the Southgate off campus dorm costs - but they do offer a meal plan so if you don’t want to cook it is a good way to go.
