What to do in my situation?? (UCI related)

First, I TAG’d as SWE and on the requirements, it says

“Completion of one year of computer programming courses in an object-oriented
or higher-level programming language. For example Python, Java, C++, data
structures, assembly language and machine organization. Object-oriented or
higher-level programming language courses that do not directly articulate to I&C
SCI 31-33 can be used to satisfy the admissions requirements. Introduction to
computer science courses do not meet this requirement.”

Now, I took the following
intro/int c++
intro/int/adv java
data structures and algorithms

I either got an A or an A+ in all the CS related courses.

Now, does this mean I satisfied the admission condition? Or does it not because I took two intro courses and that would fall under “Introduction to computer science courses do not meet this requirement”?

Also, I listed that I would be taking intermediate python in my Spring quarter but I had to swap it out for a GE class that I need for CSU golden four. I have since updated the TAU removing Python and adding the GE class. Will this be a problem since I updated it on Feb 27th when the TAU deadline was Jan 31st?

your best bet is to contact UCI admissions and ask. Contact info is on their website.

My guess is your ok and what they have in mind is a more casual course like they offer

But I don’t work in UCI admissions; I’d check with someone that does

Hey! So I actually did contact UCI admissions and their answer was super vague and they almost seemed reluctant to give a firm answer. That’s why I came here, in case anyone had/are in similar circumstances.

UC Forum Champion Note:

I am moving this thread into the UC transfer forum where you might get more information.

Yes, we can’t tell you a concrete answer, but I’m assuming this might be de anza (or one of the other two) as it’s a quarter system. So you have the equivalent of 1 year, incl those two Intro courses. I’m not sure how TAG will handle that. If you have a high GPA they may let it pass. If they’re thinking you’re so-so, they can definitely use it as a way to not guarantee you. There’s wiggle room. Regardless of that, you’d still be rolled over to regular admission.

I noticed that some CCCs don’t even offer any courses beyond those two intro courses so they aren’t always expecting more, which is a good sign.

@Ohm888 I do have a 3.96 so I think I’m okay in the GPA area. More specifically, I do go to De Anza and I took

Calc1 and Calc2 and got an A- in both. Coupled with a ton of GE classes and the CS classes listed above. I regret not finishing the Python sequence. Anyways, thank you for your reply.

^^^ good luck!
