What to do? Where to go?

I'm very stumped about where to go to college and what to go for. So I'm going to jump right in, and any advice or reccomendations you can give me will be appreciated.

I'm interested in going into sports business. In my high school courses, I've noticed I've liked sales and accounting much more than marketing, but really anything sports-related I would find fun and to be a good career as long as it paid well enough.

High School Stats

Colleges Applied
Central Michigan University - Accepted
Oakland University - Accepted w/ $8,000 scholarship
University of Michigan Ann Arbor Campus - Deferred
Florida Southern College - Pending Decision

Regarding the college I go to, I know my mom would like me to stay in state (Michigan).

So, I suppose this could all be narrowed down into a few questions...

1) What would be a good course of action regarding a degree? Would it be better to get a Bachelor's in Business Administration, a Bachelor's in Business Management, or a Bachelor's in Sports Management? Should I pursue a MBA or Master's in Sports Management after achieving the Bachelor's?

2) For that Bachelor's, what would be the best school to go to from either those that I listed or is there another school that I could realistically be accepted to with my lowish GPA?

3) Would it be smarter to just get prerequisites at one school and then attempt to transfer to a school that is known for business like Michigan (Ross), New York University (Stern), or California at Berkely (Haas)? Same for Sports Management with UMich, UMass at Amherst, or Texas?

4) Would it be smarter to get my Bachelor's at a school for #2 and then go to a great school like #3 for a Master's?

Anything else you have to add is much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Why didn’t you apply to MSU?

I assume it is difficult to transfer into Ross, since Ross undergrads don’t actually start in the school freshman year. So there is a pool of students already at Michigan vying for acceptance there.

Agree that MSU certainly could be a good choice. I think you need to get the undergrad degree and try to get some work experience somehow in the field. Then make a decision about grad school and what will do you the most good.

If Sports Management is what you want to do and the colleges offer it, that seems like what you should major in. Maybe pick up a minor in a business field (not something you can do at Michigan, so drop them from your list for one more reason). And, of course, try to get internships in sports management.

@novi - it is kind of a long story I don’t want to get fully into, but it is pointless for me to even waste an application fee on Michigan State due to some ridiculous bullcrap involving family members who currently go there.

To put it simply, if I were to attend MSU, I would **** off many people, be forced to cut ties with a few family members, and create the biggest headache of my life.

It just isn’t worth the trouble, so MSU is out of the question.

Thanks intparent! Would you reccomend I go out and find a good SM program and go there, or that I should find a good school altogether and then see if they offer SM? Thanks again!
