What to do with a terrible Math student

So, I'm a Sophomore currently, and on the "track" I'm on for Math, I'm destined to be in AP Calculus BC as a Senior. However, I'm currently in Algebra II, and it just escapes me. Honestly. I'm very strong in every other subject, the humanities, Science, English, Latin, etc.

To basically sum things up, I have a 108 in AP US History, and a 73 in Algebra II Honors.

(I can feel the shameful glares).

More than likely, I'm going to get my 73 up to around a 90, if not higher. However, when I'm a senior, the only math course available to me will be AP Calculus. And that's a terrifying thought.

So basically, my question would be;
Despite being determined to take 4 years of English, Math, Science, Social Science, and Foreign Language - would it be better to put off taking a Math course senior year, and in it's place take another AP course in another discipline I'm strong in... or should I just suck it up and take AP Calc?

All I can say is… I feel for you. I’m also in Algebra 2 and, although I have a 90%, I’m really struggeling. I can’t learn from my teacher because all I do in class is sit there and try to copy down all the notes she takes before she moves slides and I don’t have any time to absorb the material. Then I come home and attempt to figure out the homework but I usually end up just staring at it.

The only reason I have a 90% is because my teacher is, overall, pretty laid-back. She accepts late/uncompleted homework and she helps me out a lot on the tests. But I already know that I’m gonna be screwed in Pre Calculus and Calculus.

We have this online grade system checker… thing, and he’s only uploaded the one exam we took (which, I got a 73 on.) but he has yet to put homework or quizzes (which I get 100’s on) … so I mean, I can make up the test, and make correction, but I can only get a maximum score of an 82 with correction, which is better than a C, but a B- is still upsetting.

Well, think of it this way. You have to learn calculus eventually, whether it’s senior year or in college. Get it done while you’re in high school, and depending on your major, you might not have to retake the course in college

^ Depending on his or her major, the OP may not need to take Calculus. At least you can get by with Stats where I’m from…

I would wait and see how it goes for you over the next two years. I think AP Stat would be an option if you really don’t want to take calc. In the meantime, try a tutor or ask a mathy friend to help you out. I also suggest talking to your teacher. Good luck!

Like Heps1996 said, talk to your teacher after school. Or, if you’re shy, do all the problems that have answers in the textbook.

Suck it up ap calc

Khanacademy. That guy is a godsend. Last year I would have failed Geometry without it. I used it over the summer to teach myself Algebra II, and now I’m working on precalc while I’m in Algebra II so I can take calc II at a local community college before I graduate. It has videos for everything, not just math. It is so epic…
