What to include in the up-date? (SCEA deferred)

Hi,

I was deferred in the SCEA round and just wanted to know what you are including in your up-date letter if you are writing one. Up to know I only have a new SAT II score and my midyear grades (which they actually already have because of the official transcripts).

Also, a more technical question: How do you write it? Per email? And are you just writing your new "achievements" in the form of notes or are you writing a short but complete text?

THANKS!!!

If all you have are new grades and scores, then just send them through official channels…i.e, a college board score report and mid-year report from the school.

If you still want to send them something just send a brief (one or two sentences) email or letter saying that you remain very enthusiastic about Yale.

definitely write a letter/email saying how much you love yale and would love to go there…or something along those lines

So… letter or email?

And to whom?

Letter. Admissions office. Don’t do the ‘I love Yale’ thing, that’s what the ‘Why Yale’ essay was for. If you’ve accomplished anything since you filed your application, this is where to put it. Yale likes creative, artsy types, in general. Play that up. If possible, have a counselor call the Admissions Office.

Also a SCEA deferee; are we supposed to just type up a word doc listing additional achievements/awards since we sent in our Nov. applications addressed to the admissions office and mail it in? I submitted my entire application online and feel like a physical letter would get lost among all of the RD information Yale is currently receiving in the mail.

Bump, anyone care to share insight on my questions? Any help is appreciated

Wondering this too. I do have new things to include but don’t want to weigh down the letter with a list of achievements. My friend said he’s going to wait for his National Merit Finalist letter and then send it.

^ Yeah I’m not even including National Merit Finalist. I plan on sending it sometime in the next two weeks.

I’m going to include a few words about moving onto finalist status in Merit and Achievement. Not even a full sentence. The bulk of the letter is about getting a job (which doubles as a good leadership position) and a new school award. I’m also putting my finalized second semester schedule, because it differs from what was on my app. The website says to fax it, so that’s what I’m doing. I’ll send it right when I hear from National Merit.

Is anyone having someone read over theirs before they send it?

^Can you link me to where the info is on the website?

Thanks.

^ It’s on the page where you can look up your regional admissions officer. I would link it, but my school’s Internet is so terrible right now that I can’t even load Yale’s website.

ok here we go:

[Staff | Yale College Admissions](http://admissions.yale.edu/staff)

But people have mailed and emailed, so that should be fine too.

Thanks so much. :)

From me too, thanks very much!!! :)

Ditto ditto. I was wondering about that too. I’m hoping that an award I received will make them look at my application again.
