making the decision of my life: to double-major in economics + sociology (and then work in business sector) or... to double major in biology+ chemistry (and be a doc)???
i'm going to amherst college, which is a great school for both paths. any advice, thoughts would be tremendously appreciated!
which field pays more?

What do you want to do? Wall Street and Medicine are very different career paths.

Amherst is obviously a target school for ibanking/consulting and if you break into that you will probably overall make equal/more money than a doctor (once you factor in opportunity cost).

thanks a lot!
i really am not sure what i want to do.
i feel like it’s a question of a safe but boring job (doctor) vs risky but interesting job (in finance)…
so yup, can’t figure out!
plus in my family parents kept telling me to simply go for what pays, without paying attention to whether you like it or not. this makes my decision that much harder too

Are you already in college? Have you taken any classes (college-level) in any of the areas you’re looking into? If not, I would do that before making any decisions. As barrk said, those two career paths are very different.

Is it possible for you to get some type of internship for those fields? That will give you an idea of whether that career path is for you or not.

Long story short: Major in what you what you’ll be most happy in. Take classes, do internships, whatever it takes to make the right decision for you.
