What to put on my Deferal Supplemental Form?

I got deferred from GT Early Action. What should I put on my DSF (max 150 words) to increase my chances of getting in RD?

I don’t know if it would be helpful for me to share my stats on here since it is my first post so if it is lmk!

Here’s an idea. Other than submitting grades and checking the box, I wouldn’t worry too much.

Get it in and then get the school off your mind. Make sure you have those matches and safeties lined up. Good luck.

Would telling them about activities/achievements since my Early App suffice?

Is anything that different? You have little space. I remain interested. In addition to what I said before, I added this activity senior year. Honestly, I would not do that - if you just started, it has little meaning.

Did you add any accomplishments.

I would keep it simple and short. I’m sure the most important part is - yes, I still want to attend.

You haven’t done a deep enough dive yet. GT has one of the best admissions blogs written by Rick Clark. Read this and older ones for clues and reasons for deferrals… In the end there might not be a reason you can point to. If your within the GPA /scores requirements then your competitive. Being deferred from GT is what I consider a win at this point. Have back ups.

I’m planning to add a community service event that I did (and had been planning to do for a while), being selected to be in the Jazz Band on flute (which is the first time it has happened in our school’s history), continuing my computer science interests by learning another language and creating some programs and working on a mobile app, and finally mentioning that I was selected as the STAR Student of my school . The way I wrote it I hit exactly 150 words. Is that good or should I cut some things and add that I remain interested? Or should I change the whole thing into a letter of continued interest?

I’d leave off the last part -STAR.

An event I would not mention. But the flute I would. Congrats to you.

The STAR student program is a fairly big deal in Georgia. To qualify the student must have the highest SAT score at their school and also rank in the top 10 percent. They can then progress to regional and state recognition. What is your reasoning for not reporting this on the deferral form? I would absolutely include it.

Ok. I am not familiar. I thought it was like - school honor roll or top student.

Basically things like that…it’s your gpa, act, rank or what not are important.

Things that are an outcome of that I don’t believe get much weight…but I’m talking NHS, Mu Alpha Theta. It sounds like this is given bcuz of other facts but not something that was done per se. Like AP scholar with distinction. You can add if have space. But even after hearing about it, I don’t think it moves a needle. What he did to earn it…the gpa, sat…that moves the needle.

If I’m wrong on this one, thank you for correcting me.

Thank you! Is everything else alright to leave on there?

I’d include how I got it if I could. I can honestly write a short essay about how I tried really hard for that SAT score but I only get 150 words on this form.

You do not need to add any explanation. Georgia Tech is well aware of what STAR student is. Just list it along with your other accomplishments. Good luck.

Will do. Thank you!
