We are planning to attend a Saturday campus tour next month. We will have about 1-2 hours to spend in Davis before having to head back home.

Looking for suggestions of what to see/where to go in Davis that would give a good feel of student life there off the campus. Is this primarily downtown Davis? If so, what streets have the popular shops etc. that a typical student would frequent?

When i took a tour there, I went to Burger and Brew in the city of Davis. It’s the classic burger joint all the college students go to, or at least that’s what I was told. Aside from the quirky college town and the vast campus there is a lot of farmland and a lot of highways/freeways. If I were you, I’d go to the adjacent town and watch a movie.

the town of davis itself is really very small. you can easily walk all of downtown davis within a few hours. there are a lot of shops to browse in, and restaurants (indian, ethiopian, thai/other asian). i really wouldn’t approach this from a ‘mapping out a plan’ perspective as you would in a large city, because that isn’t what davis is. i’d plan to see who’s going to be performing at the mondavi center (they book some really interesting people!), and make sure you walk through the arboretum. for freshmen, student life essentially IS the campus. just relax and explore.
