Ok so I go to a college and I just was recently accepted into a foreign medical college. I wish to transfer now but don't want to tell the Dean becasue I might want to come back if everything doesn't work well. So I was wondering what I could tell the dean other than I wish to transfer. Also in college is there something as an indefinite leave of absence????

Please respond ASAP my meeting is tomorrow early in the morning so I need answer by then!!!!!!!

Wait what? You can't just disappear... they will change your status to "withdrawl"- as in, you've dropped out. You definitely can't double enroll in two schools. Just tell your dean the truth. -_-; And didn't you need his recc anyway to transfer in the first place?...

Yes, you need to be "upfront" about this. Generally, a lot of schools require the dean of the previous school to provide a statement that the student is not on a "disiplinary" leave when they apply for the new school.

As a result, you can't lie about the reason. And, if you may want to come back, let them know that you are enrolling at the new school, and wish to drop out at this school. Generally, to get back in is no problem if you have good grades (which I'm sure you do if you were accepted to a foreign medical program).

Just thank the dean for the opportunity to have been able to attend the school. Indicate that you enjoyed it there, but just had a better opportunity and are moving on for that reason.

P.S. This is very similar to leaving a job. When you leave, you always want to stay in good graces with your previous employer. You'd be amazed how often you will end up meeting people from the old employer when you apply for the job after this one--and your reputation and attitude will be known by everyone. So if you left by being a jerk, expect that people will remember this--and you may get rejected for this reason. And if you slack off during your last weeks, people remember that also. Instead, always do your best to leave a good impression--and one that you can be proud of if you return, or need a reference in the future.
