I know the Explore USC information says to be dressed in business attire for the interview, but what are we talking here? They don't expect students to show up in suits, do they?

Many students, both young men and young women, will dress in suits for the interview. Some young men had sports coats with dress pants instead of a suit. Dress shoes and tie as well. Your choice of course, but most students will dress in business attire.

maverick,

A blazer and slacks would be all right if a suit is not in your wardrobe. Think of this in one respect as a preview of the job interviews you might experience in 3 or 4 years. You may need to wear business attire for internship interviews later on in college.
USC is located in a major city. There are many cultural events such as the symphony, opera, gallery openings or premiers where campus attire of T-shirt and jeans are not appropriate.
Students wear casual clothing on campus. For the EXplore weekend the only time you will have to “dress up” is for the interview.

Most of the boys wore suits or a nice shirt and slacks. The girls’ wardrobe were more varied. I also saw a lot of people changing into more casual clothes for lunch afterwards.

What were girls wearing? Was it formal or is cute casual okay?

No jeans and t-shirts. Dressy shoes. It’s like going to a nice job interview.
