Hi guys,
My common app main essay will be about my passion for engineering and how much I love it, but some colleges ask the same question in supplement as well: Why Engineering and why Cornell?
What to do? What should I write about in both the essays? I'm EDing Cornell.
Any help would be much appreciated.

If there’s anything else you could write about, I would suggest to do so; you’ll avoid repetition and be able to show that you’re well-rounded. Then send in the engineering CA essay for colleges that don’t ask about it in the supplements; CA lets you submit three versions, I believe.

What do people usually write in the CA main essay? What is it about? How does it differ from their supplement?

There are different prompts for the common app main essay.

Some students have a background or story that is so central to their identity that they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what lessons did you learn?
Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?
Describe a place or environment where you are perfectly content. What do you do or experience there, and why is it meaningful to you?
Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.

You pick one and write between 250-650 words on it.

I know that @tola2015! I wanna know about what do people like me write about?

There are 5 possible choices. There has to be another one that you can write about. Off the top of my head I can think of a different example for 4 of them. Have you considered writing on prompt 2 you have to have experienced failure at some point in your life.

The only information you’ve given me is that you love engineering and want to major in it. So I don’t really understand who you are referring to when you say people “like you” since all you’ve mentioned is engineering.
