What type of clothes do people wear at Amherst?

What type of style do Amherst students have? What are some of the brands of clothing they like to wear? What do people usually wear to class?

I know that not everybody will have the same style or wear the same type of clothing, but I am just generally speaking and wondering if there is a particular style that the majority of the students have.

Or just comment on what a typical Amherst student is like.

Thanks!

This is what your typical group of Amherst students look like:

OP, students wear “normal” clothing on campus. Anything from jeans, t-shirts, hoodies, shorts, etc. Everything goes. The only exceptions are if you are in a sport/group that has “formals.” For that girls wear cute dresses and guys wear a button down with a tie, and perhaps a jacket. But by no means is that required.

LOL!!! @Sombre…

This is the silliest question ever. You wear what you want to wear. Amherst is not one of those colleges where there is a style anyone conforms too. It’s ridiculously diverse.

I agree with above. I feel like the LAST thing you should worry about is trying to look like everyone else. If you were the type to sort of follow the crowd in high school, now is your chance to step out of that box. Just do what you like.

Bahahaha @Sombre, you just made my day!

ivybound1, Amherst has a rather preppy side, like most (if not all) East Coast LACs, but it is also well-known for its diverse student body, in every sense of the word. Just wear what you normally would and you’ll be fine.

As someone who went to Amherst, I don’t even know what preppy means anymore. Suffice it to say, no one cares what you wear. If they care that much, they aren’t worth your time. Just don’t wander around naked. Then I think you may want the college down the road, Hampshire…
