What type of people should I expect in Isla Vista?

I went to a college out-of-state and am planning on taking classes at SBCC and living in Isla Vista. I think I would really enjoy the party scene, and I would really like to meet fun, intelligent, interesting people. Will I be capable of doing this?! To be frank, I am a bit concerned about "losers" or people who are not smart/motivated..

They like to yell “WOOOOOOOOOOOO” a lot for no particular reason and listen to mentally impaired jungle man music with lyrics about pee pees/marijuana.

Not that this is unique to UCSB, which is generally a smart school. It’s just that “party scene” and “intelligent, interesting” are usually mutually exclusive.

I recommend not living in Isla Vista. There are nearby areas where you can rent your own clean, quiet room in a normal person’s house for less money.

Does the UCSB community welcome SBCC students or, are they considered wanna-bes?

of course you’ll meet interesting and intelligent people here… you’ll find yourself partying with Bio majors, Mechanical engineering majors, Chemistry majors, Math majors, the list goes on and on. The party school rep is true, but the students that go here are very smart and ambitious. I generally have found everybody to be open and friendly and willing to meet people and its very easy to find places to party and have a good time

as for SBCC kids, I haven’t seen anybody putting somebody else down for going to SBCC, I don’t think most people care
