what type of stats does someone out of state need?

i don't want to apply if no one gets in OOS, what type of GPA/SAT usually qualifies. white kid from VA

approx 20% get in OOS. Sometimes a bit less.

I'd say you need near-ivy stats to get in from OOS. ie, top 5% of your class, 1400-1500 on math+cr parts of the SAT.

Certainly you should apply if UNC is where you'd like to go and you are a strong student. What do you have to lose (other than the application fee)?

My daughter's soccer coach used to tell her "You miss 100% of the shots you DON'T take!"

The number I read was 17% so it is a tough go.

They enroll about 18% OOS students in the incoming classes because OOS enrollment is capped at 18% by State law. They obviously accept more than 18 % because not everyone admitted enrolls.

I would say strong numbers but UNC reads your whole application, so maybe you have some extenuating circumstances or struggles, or some special talents....they dont' just go by numbers but I will say without strong numbers your other parts of your app have to stand out ....remember they are reading 20k applications and they READ EACH APPLICATION BY HAND. Some schools do not but make cuts based purely on numbers. Good luck. do make contacts, visit and log in, and speak to department chairs, attend classes,,,,,all of that helps.

at the info session i went to, they said 22% acceptance rate for OOS.
