I've heard that Cornell is very concerned about making sure their school is a great fit for those they admit, but what kind of things would be a hook? I'm first generation.. Will that help? I think a strong point of my application will be community service, is that something they value? Any help? Thanks :)

Well, think about it. A large majority of their applicants will have outstanding grades, community service, extracurriculars. So what will make you stand out? Probably the quality of your writing and how well you communicate that you love the school and you want to go there more than anything.

Here’s the link from CAS of what they say they’re looking for:
[What We Are Looking For](http://as.cornell.edu/admissions/good-candidates.cfm)

I hope this helps. Just emphasize your strong points and work on a great essay. Oh, and maintain exceptional grades.

Grades and test scores. Along with an essay and ECs.

Uniqueness.

They look for outstanding people.

Staplers and sticky notes.

passion for your subject. i think that’s the only thing that worked for me

Thanks everyone!
