I see people quoting their SAT scores out of 2400 but I keep wondering if the writing portion is worth seriously looking at. Two to three years ago, all the schools I visited with my son said that they didn't use the writing portion for admission purposes because they know yet how to interpret it. They had a long track record with seeing how the Math and Verbal portions predicted success at their school but were waiting to see how the writing portion worked out.

It seems to me that it might be too soon for things to have really changed, that they would want a few classes worth of SAT writing scores and college grades before they figured out what the scores meant. But maybe it has happened sooner than I thought. Does anyone know any schools who are definitely using it? Or is it still considered experimental?
