What was Case Westerns acceptance rate this year?

It seems like it dropped significantly

That about sums it up.

I’m currently a student here, and I asked about the statistics. The acceptance rate only dropped slightly. He said CWRU received around 36,000 applications.

If the information of 36,000 applicants is accurate, I would think that the acceptance rate drops significantly. For the class of 2017, 1/3 of the 25379 applicants are admitted: http://thedaily.case.edu/class-2021-numbers/. I doubt the school can offer admission to way more than last year.

I thought they said at the NYC Admitted Students Reception this year that 26,000 students applied.

Is Case even that hard to get into? I applied in high school and went to the admissions office to look over my file, and I got in with just the grades and test scores alone.

@SuperAzn69 What year did you apply in? It has gotten much more selective the past ten years.

@SuperAzn69 Last year 25380 students applied and 8405 were admitted: ~33%

In 2002, (the oldest Common Data Set I see), it was 4428 applied and 3447 were admitted = ~77%

@bopper It is interesting that the number admitted can increase that way in 15 years. What did case do to increase it’s capacity?

I am sure it is many things…marketing more in other areas of the country…I know recently they waived application fees so there was a low barrier to apply…the general use of Common App across more colleges making it easier for more students to apply to more colleges thereby starting a nuclear arms race with admissions in top schools.

So now I think they are working on yield…% of admitted that matriculate.
2018: 1328/8405 = 15%
2002: 836/3447 = 24%

They have added Early Decision to help with that.

They didn’t waive application fees this year, or if they did I didn’t get that memo.

No, but they did in previous years. I assume they were getting to the amount of applications they want and stopped waiving the application fee.

I still got a waiver in my email though. I think it was after requesting info online.

My girl got a waiver to. Didn’t seek it out either.

@SuperAzn69 it can be hard to get into many with 35-36 ACT and EC/Volunteer hours did not get in. These students appeared to need more financial aid for college also

I applied relatively in 2016. I had a 33 ACT and a 3.76 high school gpa with honors/AP classes.

I called the admissions office and was told the acceptance rate was “somewhere close to 30%,” so my best guess is the acceptance rate dropped around 3% and the reason it did not drop more was that the number of applicants didn’t increase as much as it could have if they continued to waive all applications fees.

Any idea when the official numbers typically be reported? Last year I heard it on one of the welcome event for the class of 2021.

@icipi It is typically a week or two into the fall semester when they know the exact number of the incoming class.
