My school is weird the way they do the US history, they say its mandatory to it this way in NJ but i know plenty of kids at other schools that do not do it like this
this is the way everyone MUST take social sciences unless you have a special exception or something but I’ve never heard of anyone having one
9th: Honors, Enriched, or Standard World History
10th: Honors, Enriched, or Standard US 1 History (covers Columbus-1880s)
11th: AP, Enriched, or Standard US 2 History (covers 1880s-present) (if you take AP then you have to study a lot for the test considering you haven’t seen much of the information for a year)
12th: No social science is needed, but many take AP US government or AP Psych (more popular since its easier)
I transferred schools this year (I’m a sophomore now). Here’s my social science sequence–it’s the most rigorous sequence possible at my school.
9th: Geography/Comparative Religions (One semester of Geo fulfilled my geography requirement for the whole year, so I took Comparative Religions as an elective. I really liked that class; I was sad it only took one semester, though)
10th: AP European History (fulfills world history requirement; it’s also offered as an elective for seniors)
11th: AP US History
12th: AP US Government/Economics (Not sure why Econ isn’t AP)
9th Grade: Nothing required, although some kids do Psychology/AP Psychology in this year.
10th Grade: World History required.
11th Grade: US History required, AP European History can be done too.
12th Grade: Economics and Government/Civics required.
My school changed the social studies sequence for Class of 2017 and beyond.
9th: US History (No freshman could handle APUSH lol)
10th: US Government/AP US Government
11th: World History/AP World History
12th: No courses required but you can take one of several elective credits like AP Euro, AP Human Geo, or any of the aforementioned AP classes that you have not taken.
My school’s sequence is kinda weird but also helpful for those taking APUSH
9th: West civ
10th: 1/2 gov, 1/2 US history
11th: Modern US history or APUSH
12th: not required but people usually take AP gov or AP psych
My school recently changed their entire program.
For this years graduating senior class it was:
9th: Civics
10th: US History or AP US history
11th: AP Human Geography or Global Studies
12th: AP Comparative Government (with US Gov as an elective) or Sociology & Economics
For all underclassman:
9th: US History: 1860s- Present (Everything before covered in 8th grade), no AP offering for Freshman
10th: AP Human Geo or Global studies
11th: AP US Gov or civics (AP US History is an elective for upperclassmen)
12th: AP Comp Gov or Sociology & Economics
9th-- AP US History
10th-- AP NSL Government
11th-- AP World History
12th-- AP Micro/Macro Economics or Psychology
I dont know what to take for my senior year. which one should I take?
Old school:
World History
U.S. History
Geography/ Government
An advanced class in one of the above (optional)
Current school:
Geography/ government (regular or advanced)
World History or AP Euro
U.S. History or Dual Credit US or APUSH
AP Psych or AP Gov or one of the many other social studies electives (optional)
I’ve decided to do:
9th- AP USH
10th- AP NSL Gov’t
11th- AP Economics
12th- AP World History
It changes every year but for me they didn’t offer AP Human Geography until this year(jr.)
This is my track and yes I am taking 4 social sciences this year…you could say I enjoy it
(9th) -World Geography Honors
(10th)-AP World History
(11th)-AP Human Geography
-AP U.S. History
-AP Psychology
-AP Macroeconomics
(12th)-AP Comparative Politics
-AP U.S. Government / AP Microeconomics
-European History
What I have decided to do:
9th
Health/Geography (core/no other option)
10th
World History (core/no other option)
11th
US History (core; APUSH offered but I’m not risking my sanity with five APs)
AP Human Geography
12th
Gov/Econ (core/no other option)
AP World History
A while ago I posted my school’s sequence. (See post 16, 1st one on page 2) This is what I am doing:
9: Ancient and Medieval History
10: Europe and the Modern World (I should have petitioned for AP Euro…)
11: AP United States History
12: One elective, probably War and Peace or Economics.
