I cant find updated info
Usually hovers from 30-34% unless they made a major drop this year.
The official one probably won’t be out for a few weeks. I think they usually list in a class profile once the incoming class is finalized, but I’m not sure.
Because this is the first admission cycle they offered EA, it will be interesting to see if they attracted a larger number of applicants. The size of the incoming Freshman class is pretty consistent year-to-year. Their Common Data Set for 2018-2019 isn’t posted to their website yet.
Applications did increase 18 percent for the 800 spots in the incoming class this year https://spiderpride.richmond.edu/article/-/15163/applications-reach-an-all-time-high.html
Here’s the stats for this year’s class:
Acceptance rate this year (as of today) was 29.7%. Will like end up around 30% after waitlist acceptances.
Nearly 12,000 applications which is a record high.
Admitted students had 31-34 ACT (25-75 percentile) and 1360-1490 SAT. Unweighted GPA was 3.63-3.97,
Clarification please:
I am confused about how the acceptance rate could stay the same (approx 30%) if Richmond received 18% more applications. Am I missing something? Shouldn’t the percentage go down? Did they accept more students than usual because they were concerned about yield? Is it somehow related to having EA for the first time?
All theories – or actual explanations – welcome!
@RichmondSpider94 curious to see where you got these numbers? A CDS for the year will not be out for a while. I’m suspecting with an EA option added this year that the overall acceptance rate would decrease a little more.
Addressing the two points above:
They accepted more applicants as well and so the acceptance rate ending up being just below 30%
I got these numbers because I am part of the alumni committee that does interviews with prospective or admitted students and they gave us this year’s information. Typically it won’t be posted on the Richmond website until the fall
Thanks for the explanation @RichmondSpider94. That makes sense.
Do you know why they accepted more applicants this year? Just wondering about the process.
I WOuld guess that they admitted more because they will lose more. EA is a great option but it also encourages kids who wouldn’t necessarily apply to give it a whirl. Some families use it as a confidence builder or a way to lesson the tension before the schools higher on their list come out. It would be interesting to see the statistics on which group is more likely to commit… EA or RD.
@RichmondSpider94 Hi, do you know what the ED acceptance rate was this year and what percentage of the incoming class is made up of ED applicants? Much thanks.
