I wanted to be a swim instructor or a piano teacher… as those were my favorite activities! :)

Wanted to be a chef for part of 3rd grade, then a nurse. That’s all I really remember about 3rd grade…I also had an imaginary friend that I named pillow. Yes, really.

Now…want to be in the Marine Corps, and then be a journalist for the Washington Post. Pillow has since moved on to the Heaven of imaginary friends. Then again, he always encouraged me to steal cookies before dinner…maybe he’s in the Hell for imaginary friends.

I really, really, really wanted to be a marine biologist and become an orca trainer at Sea World.

Now I want to be an engineer(haven’t decided on a concentration) from MIT or Harvey Mudd or Stanford :D

Help me understand what it’s like for a little kid not only to have a goal of going to college, but to have a specific college in mind.

Is it because you want to be like your mommy or daddy so you want to go to the same school? Because they are grooming you to be a competitive applicant and you want to make them happy? Because one of them has an academic job and you’ve been exposed to academic culture that way (and like it for some reason)?

Until maybe the 6th grade, I don’t think I really knew what college was. All I knew was that it’s some place where some young adults go and live away from their parents before moving into their own houses. I always wanted to do something intellectually challenging, but I had no idea that there is such a big system of formal education after high school.

^
I think it’s that you’ve heard of a couple colleges and you know you’ll probably end up going to college somewhere because you hear about it occasionally, so you just imagine yourself going to whatever college you’ve heard of before.

I thought about college occasionally when I was little, but I didn’t really know what it was. I didn’t understand until I was 12 or so that it’s not mandatory and that you can go and live there. I thought it was just more school, like 13th-16th grades. I had heard of Harvard but I thought it was like a boarding school for boys or something. :D

In 3rd grade, I really wanted to be a doctor (no idea what type, they all seemed the same back then).

That dream pretty much disappeared when I took freshman bio

I wanted to be a veterinarian who just worked with dogs and lived in a mansion on the beach in California. I was going to rescue thousands of dogs to live in my mansion with me (I really liked dogs okay) along with my husband, daughter and two sons.

Now I want to leave Kansas, live in the city during college and afterwards hopefully be working in non profit or government in some capacity, living frugally to afford to travel. Maybe join the Peace Corps. I can’t see myself being married or having kids. One dog might be okay though :)

3rd grade:
- Go to Harvard.
- I’m not sure if I was still in my astronaut phase or if I wanted to become an astronomer by that point.
Now: - Become a doctor of some sort.

Oh good god. In third grade I wanted to be a programmer for Jagex and give myself all the good items in Runescape.

I wanted to be an astronaut for NASA at the time.

^Haha same here! I wrote a report on Sally Ride and was inspired to be an astronaut. Or an astronomer. Plus we were learning about astronomy in homeroom, so that was the big thing for me.

In third grade I wanted
- to be a doctor
- to be 16
- to drive a baby blue bmw

Now (11th grade) I want
- to be a neurologist/surgeon
- to be 16
- to drive a black mercedes
- to live in charleston

not much has changed…

3rd Grade: I had my hopes on being a paleontologist. Jurassic park had me fascinated in dinosaurs. I was going to have millions of dollars and live in a huge mansion.

3rd: Become a ninja
Now: Computer Science Major
Lawyer/Doctor (Oncology)
Get at least a master’s degree.

I wanted to go to Harvard and become a veterinarian. Now, I’m going to Georgia Tech and majoring in computer science. Haha.

I remember that I thought about being an astronaut, but my family went on this ride where you get to “be an astronaut” at a theme park. my mom and I were going to go on the “not scary” version, but the rest of my family were like “don’t worry, the other version’s not scary!” so we went on the other version
freaked the hell out of me o_0

This is totally off-topic, but everyone’s talking about how they wanted to be astronauts so…when I was little I thought the other planets were fictional. Especially Saturn, because Saturn is pretty fake-looking. :D

Haha this is a fun idea!

Third Grade:

Become a Disney Imagineer
Go to an amazing school
Marry someone awesome
Live in a studio apartment in LA

11th Grade:

Watch Disney movies.
Become a pathologist/etc.
Get into an amazing school
Marry someone awesome
Stay the heck away from LA.

So basically my goals are essentially the same, just matured. Hahaha

We’ll see what I say in four years from now.

Firefighter.

Times have changed.

Oh so much…

:(

3rd Grade:
- I wanted to be a dentist only because i thought that putting flavourful fluoride in mouth trays was the coolest thing ever. Also so I could please my mom (any kind of doctor in the family was her goal)
- Have unlimited money to shop at Children’s Place

9th Grade:
- Become a computer/electrical engineer
- Have unlimited money to shop at Young Adult’s Place
- GO TO MIT (words cannot explain my love for that school)
- Start a tech company OR do something in STEM education
- Marry someone with an English accent (yes, i’m that superficial)
- Move to England with said English person
