I’m saying that his post, for the vast population of college students, holds more truth than your skewed view of the college population at large. Simple as that.

@MGSinc: “Dress for success” is not only for going to class but also for networking for the business world. I’m a business major and people in the business college at my school are very judgmental and detail oriented when it comes to appearance and how you act. Wearing something like torn jeans and a radical t shirt is not something you want to be caught dead in.

@4.340: Most girls go for the guys that dress well at the parties I’ve been to.

Not true. Because I made it clear that my view pertained to my college, not all colleges.

Stop acting stupider than you are. Your view of the college population might not be skewed, but the info you give about your college isn’t useful to many people. This was the clear implication.

Nitpicking tiny details in people’s post is not critical thinking. It’s simply a habit of people without enough brainpower to make strong arguments.

Example:

If he includes caveat, then you retract statement. Therefore it’s the worthless statement of a man with a stick up his arse.

He doesn’t need to speak to his own college–most colleges’ student bodies don’t dress as formally as Princeton’s student body. It’s your statement that is largely useless, not his. Everything else is just your pretentiousness shining.

oh my god this thread is everything that is wrong with this website

You can infer my intelligence from my posts all you want, but you are probably overestimating. But what do I know. What should be clear to an outsider to this thread (well, many things should be) is that the dress code is very school-specific, so unless the mother and son will simply choose what is true for most college campuses (as different from “students”), all that matters is the tone of his particular campus, making comments about students in general, however correct, as irrelevant as comments that pertain only to select campuses. In this case, at least I included the caveat you find irrelevant.

P.S. “Implications” are obviously not my specialty.

I leave critical thinking to those whom it interests. ;)

I thought you said I was acting “stupider than [I am]?” Or is that still a low threshold? Nitpicking is infuriating, perhaps, but does not affect the quality of the argument at all, in the same way that ad hominem attacks do not affect the validity of the rest of the argument.

That’s me described in one sentence. And yes, that would be the immediate consequence.

Seriously guys, take a step back. Go in to your closet and put on your most favoritest khaki pants / skinny jeans and take a nap.

:) Haha, really? Not a fan of Brooks Brothers?

Ugh. Those are terribly uncomfortable sleeping clothes.

Agreed (I wouldn’t call it a dress code but that’s not important). This is the most relevant thing I’ve ever seen you post and allows the thread to get back on topic.

Previously I asked if the college was private–which it is. I still think there isn’t enough info; a private college in Chicago could have one of several different student body demographics. Different demographics have different fashion trends.

OP, If you don’t want to give the specific college name, is there at least a college specific forum on CC or elsewhere where you could ask the actual college students?

At I’ll take the boat shoes over the holey jeans/trash from stores like Hollister/Abercrombie (sp I know).

I didn’t even know what “boat shoes” were before this thread. Of course, I live in Arizona.

^Most people I know wearing boat shoes have never been on one.

@Hurricane: I would but the most that I can wear to sleep is boxers and maybe a pair of athletic shorts otherwise I’ll be up all night.

^ What is weird is I’ve slept in ACUs and Boots at work. I don’t know how I managed that.

Pointless question 1: So, do you know anyone who wears boat shoes?

I figured I’d ask before baelor beats me to it.

My work is done here. :p

Well, obviously. :)

I love boat shoes. End of story.

I wear sperrys. Dead sexy and comfortable. WIN WIN.

@PKP: I saw faded red chino shorts today for only 12 bucks. You inspired me to buy them, haha.

"^ What is weird is I’ve slept in ACUs and Boots at work. I don’t know how I managed that. "

when in the army, do as gunny would do?

Idk what that means.

When we are waiting for a mission to come down we can do what we want play cards, sleep, or whatever.
