What will the well dressed Freshman guy be wearing this fall?

boating shoes are great. they’re comfortable, and i can wear them for anything thats not formal

it was a play on “when in rome, do as the romans do”

I knew it sounded familiar, haha.

Sperry’s are ugly as sin. I don’t see why anyone would wear them as a fashion statement.

I only wear mine because: a) they were my uniform shoe in high school so I already own them; b) you can slip them on easily; c) if I’m out of socks; d) if I’m feeling to lazy to actually tie shoes.

This thread has gotten a bit ridiculous lol.

cabhax, nice purchase.

Sorority letter tank tops, 5 inch standups, Chacos, and wayfarers, nothing less nothing more.

^ That is what the freshman guy will be wearing… if I may ask, where do you go to school?

Ok, so I looked at some pictures of boat shoes and Sperry’s. I don’t know if you guys just haven’t noticed… but they are UGLY. That must be an east-cost thing.

Listen youngblood, I go to Cool and Tough University. The way to be cool is to dress as rad as possible. The coolest and toughest only wear sorority letters because that means the girls gave those shirts to you… Srat Letters=Box slayer

Cbug, I’ll be serious, because you’re a mom and I like being nice to moms, makes me feel like a good person.

Depending on where you son is going it should look something like this…

Shirts
Oxford button down, doesn’t need to be brand name, various colors, stick to solids, nothing loud, maybe tattersal or stripes if you want
Polo’s same as above but stick to solids
T shirts - solids with pocket or no pocket Polo RL makes nice

Pants
Jeans - Levi’s, 2 light 1 dark nothing faded or ripped, just original jeans
Khakis - regular fit, flat front - 2 pairs - will wear them more than he thinks
Navy pants if he is up to it

Shorts
Shy away from cargos, stick more to flat front khakis 8-6’’ inseam
mesh sports shorts for lounging

Sunglasses are all about preference
Shoes
New Balance 574 or 993 styles look them up, classy and comfortable
Sperry topsiders, trust me/everyone else

Flip flops
Rainbows or Chaco brand

Boots
Regional preference

Sweaters

Solid colors v necks or crew

2 blazers
navy and lighter color (tan or seersucker)

Dress slacks
2 pair tan or grey

Suit, maybe if he already has one, otherwise just blazer and slacks will be appropriate for anything

Always remember, never wear white socks with khakis

Baelor - are you a native American English speaker? I am assuming you are not, because the way you took “wear what you want” so literally is something a native English speaker would understand, without further explanation, doesn’t mean, for example, wear nothing at all except thong panties, or wear a neon orange jumpsuit that will spontaneously combust at some random time. At least not past the age of maybe 10. Just as those things are ruled out as being absurd without explicit statements, it is equally well understood by a local that it means without saying “within the bounds of what is considered reasonable and legal”.

Does that leave a lot of room for choice? Yes that is the idea. And of course you would judge someone that wears a satan t-shirt. That is the whole idea the wearer is trying to accomplish. Purposely or unthinkingly, choosing a Che shirt does say something about the individual at college, even if they got it at a garage sale. If you don’t like it, you avoid him. If you do, you compliment him and perhaps strike up a friendship, It isn’t rocket science.

"That must be an east-cost thing. "

yup

If one is brand name conscious, the brands to look into are: Brooks Bothers, Vineyard Vines, Lilly Pulitzer, Ralph Lauren Polo, Sperry, Columbia, North Face, Southern Point, Southern Proper, Southern Tide, Southern Marsh, Buffalo and Company, Dockers, and Izod.

@fallenchemist, I am a native speaker.

[YouTube - Been Had Polo](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqnS2KnjlDU)

So I admit that I had no idea what boat shoes were. I looked them up and had the same reaction as Xirus. Those things are hideous. They look like my dad’s slippers.

I don’t even think the OP is reading anymore. She hasn’t posted in awhile.

Still can’t believe college kids wear brooks brothers :/

But to each his/her own.

Brooks Brothers polos are like $50-$60. Why would anyone want to waste their hard-earned money on that? I understand that top siders are a little cheaper but I would never wear those.

I grew up in a coastal town and used to work around boats a lot - Sperry’s are pretty common there - I don’t get why people on this thread think they’re preppy? Idk, mine cost $30 and are casual sneaker-style ones…I always thought of them the same as Converses, like casual functional shoes a lot of people wear. Weird that people here associate them with being preppy or old people lol.

The only shoes I genuinely find ugly are: chunky white sneakers and Uggs

Yep. And what’s with like the 6 recent threads on clothes? I didn’t know CC folks were so image concious hahah

I don’t know anyone that wears the BB polos just the button downs and basic t’s.
