What word/words do you always use in your high school essays?

I used 'you' a lot. Since I wrote my essays in this nifty second person speak that would either drive you insane or make you instantly accept me.

You bask in the audiences raging clamor, the solid, cool form of your guitar calming your frenzied nerves. You think to yourself...

Supposedly immerses the reader or something like that.

^ I've always hated that.
It's like when I have to judge the novices in debate and they say, "I know you're a smart person," I don't care if that was a compliment, you don't know me don't tell me something about myself.

Wow, that sounds kind of shallow.

I use the words "super" and "interessant" in almost every single French essay.

im sure there are words that i always use in essays, but none that i can remember. i just always write about art history whenever i can

ahhaha
i'm an essay-word-repeater for sure.

"ultimately," "therefore," "thus," "illustrates," "exposes," "suggests" :D

Volte-face, furthermore, hypocrisy, epitome, paragon, pragmatic...

I only used second person for the commonapp - I think my teachers would lynch me if I did it for HS essays. Most people do hate it when you talk to someone who says 'you this you that' but I kind of did it from a 'you get the chance to role-play as me'.

HOLY CRAP I DO BOTH OF THOSE TOO hahaha!

I try to stay away from juxtaposition and I don't talk about Marx a lot, though, as much as I'd like to.

"essential" I have no idea why!

"throughout the course of human history"
and I always always write in 2nd person. "we"

"This leads into the topic of ____"

"Contrary to____"

Really guilty for this one since it's frowned upon, but: "In Conclusion, _____"

"According to Kierkegaard..."

"greatly impacted"
"laid the foundation(s) for...."

lol. darn history essays

"Simply" as in, "He simply didn't think it through."
"Rather" as in, "I rather like that chair" or "That was rather rash."
Other than that, I have words I'll hear and try to incorporate into essays more often. For example, "diminutive" is the word of the moment. My writing style is informal and, unfortunately, rather offensive. Some people like that...some reeeeally don't.

"With regards to" always seems to make it into my essays.

LAAAAAAAME. I'm such a boring essayist.
