Been lurking for awhile but now I need some advice. I'm currently a Sophomore at Case Western Reserve in Cle, OH.

Major: Biomedical Engineering
GPA: 3.6

I've taken a full courseload every semester (17-19 credits) and I think I can get a 3.7-3.8 in the next few semesters.

ECs:

Community Outreach
Biomedical Engineering Society
Undergrad Student Government
Indian Students Assoc.

I havent held any positions but I did a lot in high school.

I had around a 3.6 in High school and a 1420 SAT with good SAT IIs. Looking at transferring mostly because the social aspect of the school is undesireable and I'm quite miserable here to be honest.

I did a research internship at a publicly traded biomedical engineering company in MA this past summer. My boss will be able to write me an excellent rec letter.

I was looking at Upenn, Dartmouth, MIT, Brown, Columbia, Johns Hopkins and possibly Tufts. If anyone can think of what else I should be looking at please let me know.

I think you have a good list, but not a safe list, and a good reason to transfer. Are you comfortable with Case being your safety - ie, staying there if the list you've given doesn't yield an acceptance? If not, you need list with some higher transfer acceptance rates.

I am not an expert on BME. I do know that Tulane ranks very high in BME and it is somewhat less selective than the other schools on your list. BME is one of the two engineering fields it kept after Katrina. My S had to transfer out of Tulane due to phase-out of EE, but he loved it there. The Dean of Engineering/Science college is excellent; the students who are there love it. You might even get merit $$. I'm sure there are other BME programs which could be more match/reach options for you if you don't want to use Case as your safety.

When I was applying to colleges, Case was the #4 program. Now I believe it is #7. From what someone told me it depends on one or two faculty members leaving or coming into the school.

I was thinking of WUSTL but I think I really want to stay on the east coast if possible. Don't get me wrong though, Im sure it's an excellent school.

To answer jmmom's question, yes, I would be okay with staying at Case as a safety if I dont get accepted anywhere.
