Whatcha say--that you chance me today? I chance back... jason derulo style.

Hello! I'm a permanent resident in Southern California (Korean female) and I would like to be chanced :)

SAT: 2300 superscored. 800 M, 800 W, 700 CR
2270 both times. it was like a jinx! lol
ACT: 34

GPA: 3.8 UW, 4.2 W. 6% in a semi-competitive public school with the most rigorous couses available & an upward trend

Just a little background for myself (wrote my Dartmouth essay on this)... I moved to California when I was 13-14 years old, and didn't speak a word of English then. Not an excuse, but I wrote it in my additional information section in order to explain my grades/incompetency in certain subjects.

*Extracurriculars:
Choir (4 years including next year)- I started out with a girl's choir at school because there was nothing else to take, but it's grown to be one of my biggest passions. Last year, I was a section leader and the librarian of the group as well as Choir Club President--which means I delegated all the fine arts events at the school like Battle of the Bands and Talent Show. This year, I am the President of the group as well as a section leader. I also was recommended to an honor choir at CSULA and will be doing it for three years by next year. We sang at Lincoln Center last year with New York Master Chorale as well, which was pretty cool. :D

Yearbook (3 years)- Won awards from Columbia Scholastic Press Association (Silver Crown) and National Scholastic Press Association (Pacemaker). I was the People Editor last year and am the Editor-in-Chief. I also won Best Camp Story and Best Re-design from a camp that about 200 high school yearbookers attend (2008 and 2009), which may not seem as significant.

Theatre/Musical Theatre- Eh, this one is mostly scattered because of my parents and my schedule, but I started in freshmen year and have been in 6 plays & musicals with some lead/supporting roles. I'm also a scholarship recipient for Voice from the Professional Arts Educational Center. I also took private voice and acting lessons throughout high school--mostly on scholarships of some sort.

Speech & Debate (1.5 years)- Just joined last semester, but I qualified for State in Thematic Interp. last year. Have a bunch of certificates, awards, etc

California Scholastic Federation (4 years)- volunteering and tutoring at school mostly... 50 hours

Church/Volunteering (3 years)- teaching kindergartners to memorize verses and play nice (literally) in the playground. 300+ hours

National Honors Society- just got in this year.

Best Camp Story and Best Re-design from a camp that about 200 high school yearbookers attend (2008 and 2009)

So, the schools are...
Dartmouth (Early Decision)
Williams
Amherst
Bowdoin
Middlebury
Pomona
Claremont McKenna
Georgetown
Columbia
Cornell
Northwestern
USC for merit scholarship
UC Berkeley. & LA
Duke
Yale and Stanford. For the heck of it.

Thank you :)

SAT II’s!
800 Korean. LOL
790 Math IIC. so close
730 Literature :p

What are your safeties?

Looks good. You just need to make sure you make yourself stand out in your essays because that really matters at Ivys.

my safeties are UCI & UCSD

Because you are more passionate about extracurriculars than you are about academics, you might want to apply to LACs with holistic admissions practices rather than big universities like UCB. However, All of your current LACs are reaches. Possible reaches, but reaches nonetheless. You might want to look into one or two slightly less competitive LACs (like Colby or Connecticut College) to even things out.

I know my schools are obscure, but I made sure to post admissions statistics (percentage admitted last year) at the bottom!

You’ll do fine and get into most of your schools. (You’re applying to 16 schools?!)

If I were you I would focus on your essays, as at your level that is what you need to set you apart.

Thanks for chancing me. Yeah, I had some close friends & english majors read my essay, and they all said it was moving and revealed a LOT about me (I feel like I’m bragging while writing this, haha).
MissPickwickian, my essay was actually about how learning english in 4-5 years was extremely hard yet I tried my best; I can honestly say that I am as passionate about academics as extracurriculars, if not more.
