What's a good state to go to for college if you live in California

I was thinking of going out of state for college but don't want to go to a southern state or Arizona.A hbcu is also far and I don't want to move too far away.
I live in the bay area and was thinking of going to southern california but I heard the people there are rude, cruel and unfriendly. If I base that on my visits to disneyland I would believe it but I haven't actually lived there so I can't say. New York might be too dangerous for me.
Thanks.

Well I think the obvious answer is … California.
But if not that, then how about Hawaii?
It’s just one state over (if you don’t mind all that water in the way.)

Keep in mind regardless of where you come from or where you decide to live, NorCal, SoCal, East Coast, Mid-West, North, South, or another country, you’ll find people with different backgrounds and different values. The key is to live in harmony. As the saying goes: treat others how you want to be treated. Every state is a good state, depending on your fit, do you like warm weather or cold weather? Does it matter if you live in areas with bad weather, such as tornados or hurricane? Do you prefer the beach or the desert or the Rocky Mountains? I like SoCal because of the nice weather year-round.

Um…California…
There are a ton of great schools there, with all the UC and Cal State schools to choose from. You would get in-state tuition too.

And why do you think New York is dangerous? I’m sure it’s no different from LA or any other big cities.

ForeIN, The Hawaii suggestion might be worth looking into at least. I too am from and currently in the Bay Area and I lived in Hawaii for 3 and 1/2 years. Even though I’m a big city person, I enjoyed the islands (Oahu specifically). Hawaii will feel isolating after a while - coming from such a mass that CA is - but I stayed there JUST long enough to experience all it had to offer and not feel like I was in a jail cell. So 4 years of college seems like just the right amount to experience it and leave it too, and you may be able to come back to CA for summers or what not. I was able to take a few weeks back to the Republic every year or so.

Hawaii isn’t known for their K-12 education (and I know firsthand the comparison), but some of their colleges have stellar programs, like UH.

I myself, as a Californian, applied to schools in Alabama and DC. You might not like DC if you’re not such an independent person who likes to just go off and figure most things out on your own and as you go along, but Alabama has awesome schools that aren’t as expensive for OOS compared to other states and can still offer some modernism.

Hope that helps.

Have you looked at what your family can afford for school? One option to keep costs down is to look at WUE schools where you get a price reduction.
lol…you do realize that the guests at Disneyland are from all over the world, right?

Anyway…southern Californians are very friendly. I have no idea why you’d think otherwise.

What is your major? What is your budget? What are your stats?

Absolutely true. We are all unfeeling monsters down here.

A day at Disneyland is enough to make anyone rude and unfriendly.

I agree that the first issue is how much you and your family can afford to pay for college. Also, what are your stats? Have you taken the SAT yet (or the PSAT), and have you calculated your UC/CSU gpa?

Ok I guess I didn’t think a lot of the people in LA are tourists or probably live there but aren’t orginally from there.
