Whats a good usb flash drive brand?

After the floppy disk fiasco in my physics lab, i finally decided to get a usb flash drive (no one in my group has an usb). Floppies are such antique now a days (they are so slow). I want to get a 512mb usb. So does anyone know whats a good brand for a usb that isn't overpriced? There are so many brands that i don't know which one to choose. I will carry it to school a lot, so i want an usb that can withstand some wear and tear. I heard that a lot of usbs are quite sensitive to wear and tear. Any suggestions?

I've had no problems with my 2 year old 128MB Canyon (which still works even after it was kicked while still in a USB port...), or my new 1GB Disgo. Don't really know how others have found other brands.

I have a no-name brand 128 mb and a Memorex 256 mb. Both seem to work fine, but like everything else electronic, will fail when one least expects it to. They're used mostly to archive (backup) files on my laptop, to print docs when at Kinko's or to transfer files/install applications on someone else's computer.

I want a 1 gb drive when I find a good sale.

Has anyone actually run applications from a flash drive?

Corsair, I recently bought a 2gb flash key from them and it often outwrites and reads keys half its size. That and it was less than $100 make it a clear winner. Corsair has really good quality normal RAM, they make good keys too.

I bought a 512 MB SanDisK drive almost a year ago for $50 (thanks to a nice rebate). I think that with a relatively simple device like a flash drive, any brand is likely to be reliable. Just choose the one that is the least expensive and will fit into your USB port(some are too thick to fit into the standard slot if there is another device plugged in).

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think i'll get the cheapest one i can find.

i got have a 16MB HP drive (it was free from my school) and i bought a 1 GB memorex for $59.99 at circuit city plus a $20.00 rebate. i got it b/c it was the cheapest. i doubt any brand will be that much better than the other.

sandisk is good, i always rely on them when i need memory, ive had bad experience with the no name brands. whatever's on sale at compusa is usually good tho.

I have a sandisk cruiser 512mb for 20 bucks after rebates.

P.S. always remember to use the safely remove hardware option in windows xp when removing your flash drive. This is to reduce the possibility of losing/corrupting data when you are unplugging the flash drive while power is still going to the flash drive.

"Just choose the one that is the least expensive and will fit into your USB port(some are too thick to fit into the standard slot if there is another device plugged in)."

I have a 3 ft. USB extension cord that works well in those tight or ackward spaces, like in the rear of a desktop pc that can't be moved around. It's much better to diddle around with the cord than to fear damaging the real USB device.
