What's aid like at Wesleyan for internationals?

Hi

Just wondering - what is financial aid like for international students at Wesleyan? My dream is Yale but Wesleyan actually looks really nice - just another question; I know Wesleyan isn’t an Ivy but does it compare to the likes of Yale and Princeton? Or no?

Thanks

Aid at Wesleyan is not need-blind for internationals, so the first trick is to get in. After that, Wesleyan can be very generous. As for how it compares to the very tippy top of the Ivy League, here’s a fairly even-handed discussion on the Yale CC forum:

Financial aid for international students at Wesleyan is very limited. Read this from their website:

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
EXPENSES AND FINANCIAL AID

Wesleyan and U.S. federally sponsored financial aid are available to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Financial aid for international students, however, is extremely limited and is awarded on the basis of both exceptional qualifications and demonstrated need. In addition to the 11 Freeman Asian Scholars, we expect to provide financial assistance to approximately 15 international students from a pool of over 600 such applicants. We will meet the demonstrated need for all admitted students. No financial aid is available for transfer students who are not US citizens or permanent residents of the US.

For 2014-15
67 international freshman, 248 total

If institutional financial aid is available for undergraduate degreese eking nonresident aliens, provide the number of
undergraduate degreeseeking nonresident aliens who were awarded need based or non need based aid:
77

Average dollar amount of institutional financial aid awarded to undergraduate degree seeking nonresident aliens:
$54,996

Total dollar amount of institutional financial aid awarded to undergraduate degree seeking nonresident aliens:

$4,179,668

No Wesleyan is not like Yale or Princeton in fame or amount of money it has. That doesn’t mean it is still not a very good college.
