Whats Around Pepperdine

So I was thinking.... if you dont have a car where do you go in Malibu or thats near Pepperdine? Like are the places you can go that are in walking distance?

Hmm I dont know but Ill update this after my visit next month

Honestly I did not see that many commercial places that close to Pepperdine, but I didn't look too hard on my visit for them. There is always the beach which I hear is a 15 minute walk.

let me just say that pepperdine has probably the most glorious campus in the country: the school sits on a cliff overlooking the pacific ocean.
so everthing on campus is beautiful and the beach is in walking distances. many students go surfing before their classes start.

Well... ive visited the campus and I know first hand that it is BEAUTIFUL and amazing. But I can only imagine that if Im going to be there for 4 years Im going to want to do things off campus. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing (ya know?). So that's why im asking whats near by.

Honestly, there's not that much to do in Malibu, certainly not within walking distance (partially because to get back on campus, you've got to climb that huge hill). Sometimes people walk down to Ralphs/CVS for shopping, but there's really nothing entertainment-wise there.

All I can really think of is there's a small movie theater (2 screens). When people go out somewhere in Malibu, it's usually to the beach or somewhere for dinner. We'll joke about how there's nothing to do, and everything tends to close pretty early.

Obviously if you have a car, there's lots of things in Santa Monica and LA. Without a car, you're basically stuck on campus. Though even though I don't have a car, it's pretty easy to get rides from friends to go out.

You can think of Malibu as a very small town that is 30 minutes away from a very large city.

Is it easy to keep a car at Pepperdine?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking by "easy"... Parking can be hard to find sometimes (nearly all student who live on campus park in Rho Parking lot), and when the lots are full you have to parallel park on the hills, but other than that there aren't really any problems.

They have a shuttle bus that circles campus and ventures down into the commercial strip (grocery store, banks -- lots and lots of banks, fancy frozen yogurt place, sub shop, clothing boutiques.)

Malibu is not a bustling center of anything (except, perhaps, papparazzi). Pepperdine is actually quite close to the commercial center of Malibu, such as it is. Banks, a supermarket, more banks, boutiques, sandwich shops, gas station, more banks. Montana Avenue or Third Street in Santa Monica is fifteen to twenty minutes by car. I think that there are bus stops along PCH, but I'm not sure of that. Santa Monica has clubs, movie theaters, a bustling restaurant scene and plenty of shopping, and a great grassy palisade to run along. Venice (just south of Santa Monica) has a funkier scene and even more of a beach scene.

Melrose & Hollywood are probably forty minutes from Pepperdine with a car if you go Sunset Boulevard. Not sure about the scene in Westwood these days, but it is a bit closer.

You can also follow the Canyon in from Pepperdine and end up in the San Fernando Valley, home to lots and lots of houses.

Thanks arabrab for posting that. I didnt know that they had a shuttle bus, thats very cool. Also im glad to hear there is a supermarket nearby, I was worried i'd have to drive 20 min to find a safeway(or something similar) ...that would suck

Haha, Safeway! You must be from northern california, lol. They have Ralphs in LA. But even if you dont have a car, I'm sure you will befriend someone that does. =)

Well i am form NorCal....
but ive seen a safeway in LA before.
