We've all heard about how many great things NU and all colleges have. And the simple truth is, that all colleges have their positives and negatives.

I think it would be real helpful to know what you dislike about NU. Either if you are a current student, or something that turned you away.

Honestly, everything I read sounds good, but obviously there are negatives. So in your opinion, what are they?

Honestly the only thing I dislike at all is that Greek is soooo big here and I'm not really into it, but almost all my friends joined sororities...most of the time I'm ok with it, but sometimes it sucks when you don't have all those events to go to and all your friends do....however, Greek life being big is nice for the party scene, and living north last year, I frequented frats...so I'm thankful for that

As a junior trying to decide on a college I've been hearing a lot of negative things about the social life at NU and it's not helping me choose it even though it's been my #1 choice for a while. I would love to hear more positive things.

the weather i can deal with for the most part.

THE worst thing about NU in my opinion is that it's on the quarter system. so as a freshman, you'll be the last out of all your friends to leave (which can be good on some levels, if you want time to get ready without having to say bye to all your friends) and the last to come home. i had a terrible time finding a seconed job in addition to the one i had last summer coming back in June since most of the opportunities available have been snatched up by high schoolers or college students back since the end of April. but i guess it's something you get used to...slowly, but surely.

I like the quarter system....Classes are only 10 weeks long, so you don't get sooo sick of classes as you do when you're in classes for 16 weeks. Yes, we're out at different times, but it's actually not that bad....plus, you can offer the month of september to a summer job...most people go back in mid-late august.

As far as social life, I think it's pretty good...people complain all the time, but those are hardcore party people. There will be nights when you can't find a party to go to, but there have also been nights with 6 or 7 options. It all depends on connections and what kind of social life you're looking for, but I really feel like NU has a pretty good balance between partying and a good academic environment. You can get work done, but you can also have fun.

My D isn't crazy about the late start/late finish. She was only home a few days before she missed it. Maybe the food isn't so great but she found a burrito guy and a sandwich guy. She certainly didn't starve!

haha....I miss NU a ton and I do think it's hard to get back into the swing of things at home when you come home so much later than everyone else...but it's really not that bad - you just have a make a little more effort to get back in touch and let people know you're home....as far as food...it's not bad, but it's the same foods over and over again and sometimes there's not much to choose from....but the burritos at sarg are good and the wrap lady at allison rocks....and even if you don't like the food, ellery who swipes at allison is the best entertainment you can get in a dining hall...
