i want a masters in spanish language and literature. most graduate schools require you to pass proficency in another language, i.e. german, latin, french, italian.

i will be a sophomore in college and will be abroad my junior year, most likely in spain...

should i study german or latin next year?

german seems good because i will be in europe, but latin is the base of all romance languages?

if you know spanish, italian should be easy to pick up

italian is not offered at my school

Latin is fun if you know Spanish (as I, being a Colombian lady, do) because you can play at cognates until your Intermediate level Latin classes. It is kind of nice to have the definition of a humble level word spring out at you because of your Spanish background.
French, I personally do not recommend because of how different the punctuation is, but that is just my opinion.
Why do you not call or e mail the Language heads at your dream list of schools for ideas? That would harm no one. Just be polite and respond back nicely:)

if you already have spanish, latin will be relatively easy. German is very different, especially the grammar (word order) and may actually not be so good for your spanish. I don't speak spanish but I do speak french and german has wrecked havoc on my accent.

latin will help you with the GREs.
