I just received a letter from Pitt and got informed that I just got wait-listed. I’m hoping to be an Engineering major (Chemical/BioChem). Because Pitt is my first pick I think that I will just accepted admission to the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and transferring into Swanson after the first semester.
Would this be a good choice for me, could anyone tell me the difference between the two schools, and would I be able to take the honor classes (most likely won’t get into the Honors program)?

You can petition to take honors classes. Since you need a good GPA to transfer to Swanson later I would be careful and start out with introductory science classes and see how that goes for you in first semester/year. There is plenty of time to take honors classes later.
Your first two semesters will be plenty demanding with Calc 1 and 2, Physics 1 and 2, Chem 1 and 2 (plus 1 lab), 2 engineering classes and English composition.
You will not be able go transfer until you take the required classes. Read the information in above link.
@blflyingpig, I would encourage you to read the FAQ that was included with your letter. It will walk you through the process and requirements for transferring from the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences to the Swanson School of Engineering.
Best,
A Pitt Admissions Staffer
