What's my shot to be a Bruin?

Hey so I'm a Junior in CA, wondering about what my shot is at UCLA. here's the profile

ACT Composite: 33

SAT IIs: Span: 770 Lit: 710

AP's: Span- 5 Eng- 4 US History- 3

UC GPA: 3.8 (with hardest courses)

ECs listed on app: football, track, was in 2 clubs, and work

Job/Work Experience: did finances that were really receipts at a family friend's company and also had a job too

Essays (subject and responses): already started so they should be very good- on two hardships that have come down on me the last 2 years, and my dealing w/ them. i think UCLA puts a lot on the essay so maybe this helps ease the pain of the gpa?

Teacher Recs: better than great

Counselor Rec: great

School Type: Private, does not rank

Ethnicity: Hispanic

Gender:M

Also: Took 2 summer courses at a local comm. college- pysch and creative writing, both got A's, and added them into the GPA already. and i also got 4 academic awards (not sure if it means much, but what the hell)

thanks alot

Wow, it never ends.

They multiply faster than viruses, I swear.

OP, it would help to know what major. Might want to take another SAT II though; I don't think a 770 in Spanish looks that good if you're Hispanic.

Slight Reach imo

major= undecided

Slight reach sounds about right.

Around 10 people in my school got into UCLA with pathetic SAT scores (less than 1600/2400 on the Reasoning test), very little ECs, and pretty weak essays so you have a relatively good shot.

you call anything less than a 2400 "pathetic"???

He means less than 1600 out of 2400.

Right

sleepwalker: i seriously doubt that :)

A bunch of perhaps overqualified folks got rejected this year. I mean 4.5+ GPA 2200+ SATs, top 10% in class...etc. So you can never predict admissions...sucks doesn't it?

The same can be said of any year. I remember when I graduated (2004), my year had many top 40 (top 5% of my class) students who got rejected from UCLA.

you need to be way up in the ranks to get in with low scores like top 10 out of 400 or so... from i heard if you apply undecided the admission counselor don't like that much which makes you seem like you don't even know much about yourself, but that might just be a rumor tho...
btw isn't it kinda early to start chancing again? the decisions for this year barely came out...

That's a dumb ass-rumor.

GSW Fan:

UCLA: Slight Reach

Grapesoda is right: I meant 1600 on the new SAT. I'm dead serious about the kids in our school that got admitted. I got the highest SAT score of the school with a pathetic 1960! The kids that got in had pretty decent GPA though (in the top 20 out of a class of around 900) so that might be it. I got in too and my essays had like 10 grammar errors. GSW Fan: you are far better qualified than anyone in our school.

By the way, you don't need letters of recommendation.

My god...

I know. Everyone at our is insanely stupid. It's going to be hell next year competing with people who actually know what they are doing.

Do you know what you're school's API score is?
