I need to know what percentage of student can get an A in a typical class. How about other schools. Does UVA has certain advantage or disadvantage regarding grading. Thanks.

once you get your uva email you can check out thecourseforum dotcom and it lists grade distributions. you can also search this forum for the link to the average gpa’s - they’re very high. (3.1+)

It really depends on which course one is taking and who the Prof. is and their mode of grading. Sometimes it’s hit or miss.
“Regarding grades”: UVA is a tough school, abundant with smart students. It takes a lot of persistence, diligence, and smarts to get A’s because so many of the other kids here are striving to have those same qualities.
Definitely>not easy, definitely>competitive, definitely>great classes with great Profs… It’s an excellent, challenging University.

Definitely depends on your major. There are majors out there where almost everyone gets a B+ or better, and then there’s math/engineering majors where the average GPA is 3.0 or possibly lower.

CHeck out theCourseForum for grade distributions from a lot of classes.

Out of curiosity, UVA-AVU-UVA, which majors are the ones where everyone gets a B+?

Yeah, it really depends on what classes you take. But you’re competing with students who were at the top of their hs class, so you’re going to have to study your butt off to get an A.

thecourseforum.com is awesome and provides very helpful information!

I found that most of my classes did not have a curve. The ones that did were typically much larger in size or introductory courses. Econ, Psych 100 and Stat 212 all ring a bell to me.
