What's so good about the blue book?

Quite honestly there is nothing special about this book, unless people are refering to a different edition or version of the "The Official SAT Study Guide". I have a copy, and I personally do not like it. Mainly, the book only gives the answers and does not explain them.

That being said - is there a new edition that does explain the answers, or does anyone recommend a book that has practice tests along with explanations to problems?

Well, the best thing about the book is that it is written by the collegeboard, so the tests are accurate. If you are looking for explanations, you should look here:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=339734

The tests may be accurate, but what's the point if you can't learn from your mistakes? That thread only gives so much though, it would be great to have the book actually have explanations to everything, or atleast most of the tests.

You can always post a new thread if you want explanations. Most of the ones that don't have explanations yet are the ones that most people find the easiest.

Yeah, and it's great to have people aid you to troublesome problems, but could be too much of a hassle to keep making threads or asking for help. Would be nice if CB actually put those explanations in, eh?

Yeah, it would, but I wouldn't count on it. It is CB after all.

That's why I'm so hesitant to actually work with the blue book, it's good for practice but sometimes I would like to work from my mistakes.

Does any CB book have tests with explanations?

I think the blue book is the only book they put out for the actual SAT.

What I would do is work through the tests, look at the ones you got wrong (often times I figure out what I did wrong by myself), check the thread, and post a new thread if you need extra help.

I think if you can figure it out yourself then that's more advantageous than someone just spoon feeding answers and explanations =/

you can get the answers from the online course wich charges about 70$ but you can cheat your way through and get course for free but i'm not allowed to tell yall because cc will flag me agian, try looking it up on search

Georgia cough

PR/kaplan/barron's explanations are just a bunch of bs anyways

if you're not smart enough to figure out why you got somethng wrong then it's your problem

Totally agree. How hard is it to figure out why something is the right answer? I mean, I guess if you really can't you could ask a teacher. The other tests are such jokes compared to Blue Book.

Niiiiiiiiice.

I found the PR explanations useful. I mean, yeah, you can spend the time figuring out what you did wrong and that's helpful, but the explanations are a good starting point. I found them most helpful for math.

That really is my only complaint about the CB tests. They should come with explanations. But I personally think the PR tests are VERY close to the real thing, so they're a good alternative or supplement to the CB tests.

The PR tests are not very close at all. The PR tests are trying to teach you their strategies as opposed to letting you develop strategies of your own. They're utterly worthless if you're a good test taker.

CB explanations are like $60 or 70 but if you're smart enough you can easily trick it into giving it to you for free

i'm thinking of a number between 1 and 100, first ten to PM me before 12AM PST Tuesday, may 15th, whoever gets the closest gets a free CB online account

if u type them in google u can get the cb online accounts too :p

or you could do kaplan for great explanations and then do the cb practice tests! you have no idea how much i raised my scores from that!

accuracy of the test questions is more important than different questions with explanations.

i agree wit not ambi
