Is there a specific month that it's better to take the SATs in?
Either because of an easier curve or something else.

I'm going to be a junior this year, and I'm planning on taking the SATs around November, then again in May.

If I do well in November, I don't want to take them over again, but it seems like everyone else takes them in spring of junior year, then again in fall of senior year, and so I was wondering if there was a reason for that.

Is it bad to just take it once in fall of Junior year?

Thanks.

I'd advice multiple takings, at least two, and three if you feel you you'll improve. Really, it's all about how much effort you're putting into it. If you're just going straight in, "cold," with no planned prep, take it twice. If you're like most CCers, and are obsessing over every 10 points, then take it as many times as money allows.

As for curve difference, I don't think they vary much, if at all, so just take it when you feel it's right. Your best bet is in the spring, because you've been in school awhile, unlike in the fall.

Your plan sounds good, definitely take the SAT in the fall/winter for the first time and reserve a time in the spring for a retake if necessary. I think it's a real mistake to wait until spring for the first sitting as you are also studying for AP's and the SAT only adds to the burden. At least at my D's school, the GC's tell the kids to take the SAT in the spring as they have more class time behind them. I don't think that a couple of months of class makes enough difference to make up for the stress. There's absolutely nothing wrong with taking the SAT only once early in your junior year, all that matters is the score, not when you took it.

As far as a retake in May, you might want to delay it until June and save the May sitting for SAT II's that correspond to AP's you're taking. My D liked this best as she only had to study once for both tests. Many of her friends took the SAT in May sandwiched between AP tests and didn't like it. There is no "easier" sitting of the SAT, see post #10 in this thread:

Good luck.

Agree with most of above posts, but I would advice you take the SAT in March, as your score in Math, will almost certainly be higher after 6 months of class. You can retake it again in June [ if it does not conflict with any additional SATIIs you may want to take then, when the material is still fresh] or in Oct.

If you took class or sure about good results, then go ahead

I'm also a junior. I am think of taking it in Jan and again in March or may. If i take it again, oct of Senior year.

That's my plan and make sure u have room for sub. Tests.
