whats the big college essay???

ok i looked at a bunch of college apps and the only questions they ask seem to be short answer- whats your fave ec, why do you want to go here, etc.
so what are the major essays everyone keeps worrying about??? im confused?

Many supplementary applications require an extra essay. The common application (which many schools use) also requires the applicant to choose 1 of the essay topics given.

ok well those are basically the topics i saw on the supplements too…and because theyre vague, we have to find something we specifically want to write about, right?

Write…what you think is uniquely you. If there is one thing that stands out as a “anu1995 answer to this question” than that is perfect. Honestly, it is the most personal thing in your application (the only thing that really isn’t hard numbers) so whatever answers the question that you can pour your heart and soul into will be perfect.

Yeah write about something that makes you stand out and that makes the college actually want to take you.

The major essay is the one on the common app that gets sent to every college; there’s a couple of prompts including ‘topic of your choice’ and answers are usually around 600-1000 words.

^ I believe there’s a 500-word cap on Common App essays this year. :/

^isn’t that only a recommended? i.e. not required?

I think that most colleges require the essay.
