What's the Character of Troy Hall?

I'm curious to hear from those who have lived there. What went well, and what went poorly? Favorite and least favorite experiences? Advice for a student next year?

I currently live in Troy Hall. Nice apartments and close to campus. The basketball team, and now some of the football team lives in this building. It has a pretty lame social life, although if you search around the building their are social residents.

My only problems have been with other residents being too studious and quiet.

Anything more specific that you would like to know? What is the year of the student that will be living there (I'm assuming your son or daughter)?

CubsRule ~ My son is one of those "studious" types...he has had some room-mates who were not, and is hoping the place will be quiet. But more specifically, how long to get to classes, any trouble with local neighbors, any pests in the building, etc? What were your best and worst moments caused by the building or the location?

Another question about Troy Hall: how much does the utilities bill usually come out to? Is it monthly?

Also, is there any way to pay for an entire semester's worth of rent?

(Sorry, there doesn't seem to be an edit link)

No problems with locals - the building is pretty secure. It takes about 5 minutes (walking) to get to THH. No problems with pests.

If your son is really studious, I think he will like it.

I'm not exactly sure about the monthly utilities, it isnt too expensive. And no, you cant pay for the whole semesters rent at once (at least not that I know of). If you pay that much to the student account (without owing any money), they pay you back.

How about Troy East? Any thoughts?

Troy East is essentially the same building. They are completely connected, just different sides of the building. The rooms on the East side are typically not as nice, but they are still not bad.

i lived on the first floor in troy and it was dead quiet. the third floor on the other hand was loud compared to the first floor.

also, i think troy east is slightly more social than troy hall. i remember there
were many parties and lots of noise from that side.

Did anyone use the shuttle bus to campus?

From Troy Hall? It is literally 2 blocks away, straight down University Avenue (Trousdale, once you are on campus). A 5 minute walk, taking the shuttle (if it is even possible) would be a huge waste of time.

the shuttle is a joke at USC . you might as well walk unless you live in a very far away/shady area.

i lived in troy east last year and i liked it overall

great location, close to campus, safe, decent sized rooms, pretty reasonable rates, usc internet, etc

although it really isn't social. it's not like i was expecting the same dorm social atmosphere, but some of the people there were a little uptight; I remember my friends and I getting noise complaints on friday nights. I did meet some cool people at the beginning of the year though

I lived in Troy East last year and will be returning this year to the same building. It is much more social then troy, however, the apartments in troy are bigger. So you sort of sacrifice space for a more social atmosphere.

Yes, you can pay rent by the semester. All you have to do is email the housing office at housing@usc.edu and tell them you want to be billed per semester. That is what I do and it always works fine.

Ummm.....power in troy east ranged from 15-30 bucks a month. Usually the highest month was august and may when you have to use the air conditioning. Plus our december power was about 25 bucks because we had a christmas tree and lights. The other months it is close to 15 dollars, which is pretty cheap. I don't know if that is because we had 5 people in our apartment but I think it is all pretty much the same.

Oh, the tram is a waste unless is it raining or late at night. In which case it is easier to use the campus cruiser. The tram takes you way out by vermont and over back to sierra apartments and troy is only 2 blocks away (quick 5 minute walk) on University Blvd.

Anyways, if you have any questions about troy or troy east just pm me and I will answer them!!

does that mean OJ Mayo will be living in Troy Hall this year!??!!?
