What's the deal with highest of the 3 scores?

Alright, I took the SAT I twice. First time got an 760 writing, 740 verb and 680 math (2180). Took it again and got an 800 math, 800 verb, and 730 writing (2330). Will Columbia look at my 760 writing from the first test for a composite of 2360? And secondly, do they look at it as a 1600 + a 760 writing, or one big thing? thanks a lot

From what I remember, they take the highest of each of the tests, so you'd actually have a 2360. Don't sweat it if they don't look at it that way, though, because the thirty point difference is very trivial. If the adcoms for some reason decided to reject you with the 2330, they wouldn't have accepted you with a 2360 anyway.

And they look at each of the tests separately instead of adding them up, so your scores wouldn't look like a 2360 or a 1600 + 760; it would be an 800+800+760. IMO, however, it won't make the slightest bit of difference in their decision.

hey thats an impressive improvement.. can i ask what accounted for it?

I was sick like none other on March.
