well yesterday i got accepted to davis as a managerial econ major and i am only taking stats and business calc now. i am completely missing the calc prereq. i have a 3.45 gpa fyi.

@retep
Was this the first math course youve taken at a cc?

no. my first was remedial math…but that doesnt even count anyway, right?
but yeah, you guys should not worry with your high GPAs…

im in sort of the same boat as you 1 year polysci but I did the english first semester(AP got me out of 101) and stats in the winter but the took only 1 of the three polysci classes so im doing 3 of those now

anyone have insight on my situation, its possible effect on admissions? O 4.0 gpa

Having your Math and English done by the fall semester is very important. I am taking my English 5 and Statistic class right now. I have a 3.95 gpa.

I have been denied to UCSC, and accepted to UCD. My UCSB and UCLA applications are still pending.

I don’t understand why UCSC didn’t accept with a conditional agreement.

@spencer,

That’s very weird… Maybe they thought you weren’t going to submit SIR and so they denied in an attempt to keep their admission rate more competitive.

Don’t they explicitly tell you to take finish math and english requirements no later than the fall quarter/semester before you apply? It’s not the same as the rest of IGETC which they allow you to complete through the winter/spring. Maybe I’m wrong, but I thought that this was the policy going into my first quarter at junior college so I got those classes out of the way as soon as possible.

no, ive always understood it that you just have to have everything done by the end of the spring before you transfer

yeah, you might be right on that. i know for a fact that the UCSD tag does explicitly state that you need to have the math and english done by fall. i just followed those guidelines so i don’t really know if it applies to all UCs

also do you think it differs by major. Im a polisci major and ill I have to do is finish a stats class to complete the igetc. It is not mentioned anywhere on places like assist.org that I have to complete a math class. It just says that I have to finish the igetc and all the prereqs by the end of spring

yeah i’m a poli sci major too and all you need to fulfill the math requirement is stats

I also just thought you had to complete everything by the end of spring semester.

ok, I just found this, it should clear some things up. This is from the ucla transfer admission guide. I have no idea where this rumor started that you have to finish everything up by fall. Everyone should just relax and chill out

Completion of the UC English composition, mathematics, and additional subject requirements by spring prior to transfer:

* Two courses in English composition/critical thinking and writing.
- One transferable math course that has a prerequisite of intermediate algebra or higher.
- Four transferable college courses in at least two of the following subject areas: arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, physical and biological sciences.

Completing IGETC by spring=bare minimum

Completing IGETC by fall= more competitive

Definitely more competitive but it is still ok. I think they will take into consideration that you are a one year transfer. It is though required for all Tags.
Whoever was denied what were your stats? That seems ridiculous with that high of a GPA.

That’s weird, I’ve never heard of this!

My cousin who transferred last year to Cal was taking her Intro to Statistics class last Spring and got in fine, although she did have a 3.9 but Psychology is a difficult major to get into, especially at Cal since it is impacted and Stats is a pre-req…

Don’t know what else to say, you might be the exception!
