dumb question but help much appreciated

Just how big of a deal do UC's make it if you don't complete your English/Math requirement until Spring?
For my major (Poli Sci) I finished all major pre-reqs and am on track to complete IGETC by the time I transfer, I have English 1A covered by my AP score and I need to take 1B and Statistics (which is the only math I need to take btw).
Due to my laziness (I know I know), I theorize I won't get into 1B or Stats for the Fall where I plan to apply to UC's and I "might" need to take both possibly in the winter or spring, whichever is available.
So to sum it up, if I need math and english that late in my cc career, did I screw myself over? Or do certain UC's look at it differently (specifically UCSB and UCSD)
Thanks for looking.

Also, I plan to TAG UCSB and my GPA is fine, I’ll finish 60 units by Spring 2013 as I applied in Fall 2012 to clear any confusion. All I’m worrying about is not getting an English 1b or Math class until Spring 2013. And yes, I read the similar post for “Math in Spring” before mine, I just want to have additional inputs.

I don’t know about UCSD, but I know for a fact that UCSB looks down upon if you complete a math/english requirement in the Spring prior to transfer. UCSD is probably similar as well. The way the UC’s see is that you’re considered a risky applicant because if for some reason you don’t pass, then they’ve just been screwed. I had talked to a UCSB evaluator on the phone and they pretty much told me that it is an unspoken rule that they don’t consider those completing math/english requirements in Spring for that very reason, despite what the website says. Just finish your requirements ASAP! TAG will definitely help you as well. :)

You won’t qualify for UCSB TAG if you dont complete both your 2 English 1 math classes by the end of FALL 2012 for fall 2013

SB has been rejecting students who have been taking math and English classes in their last semester.

I did my math requirement this semester and got into UCLA/UCSC/UCSB.

They did email me asking about how I was doing in math though, so I think it’s definitely something they look at.

It could potentially put you into rejected if you’re already a borderline.

Take your Math in the Fall if possible, don’t leave it to Spring.

Sorry but I must ask, did you tag any UC? Basically by taking your math in spring it negates you from UCSB’s tag, but you got in nonetheless and I’m assuming thats without tagging them, so it’s not entirely hopeless is it?

^^It’s not hopeless depending on your major and how competitive your GPA is

it seemed to be a VERY good idea to complete the GE math and english requirements before spring. i did see some people admitted with one IP, but not both. and it might have been because they had a special Major with separate L and S requirements. i dunno. frankly, i would not take the risk. good luck!

I completed the Math requirement this semester. Going to Cal
