whats the difference b/w bio 101 and bio150?

whats the difference b/w bio 101 and bio150?

One counts towards your major and one doesn't, I think. Best advice is to check the Stony bulletin.

which one would you prefer and i'm not going to be a bio major.

Depends what you're taking it for. DEC E?

BIO 150 is a hard thing to quantify right now because of the way the bio curriculum is in flux. 150 used to be required for majors unless you had AP credit, but it was kind of useless since all the important topics were covered later on in the 200-level sequence. For as long as I've been here, BIO 150's been a really bizarre grab bag with profs basically teaching whatever they want and the curriculum getting restructured every semester. Most of the people I know who took it hated it (I never did; thank god for AP credit). With the curriculum overhaul, it's even more of an unknown entity. Do you know who's teaching 150 and 101 in the fall?

101 will be easier; 150 will probably be geared more toward people who plan on continuing in bio or another science. So really it comes back to your reason for taking a bio class in the first place.

actually neither 150 nor 101 count for the bio major. and neither is required to get into the 200 lvl bios [unless you scored low on the math placement exam]. 101 is aimed at non-science majors who need to fulfill a dec e requirement. 150 requires more work than 101. for 101 you only have 2 midterms and a final [and loads of extra credit]. for 150 you have to do homework assignments, prep quizzes, group activities, and "discussions" on top of the 2 midterms and final.
